Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Spoiled by luxuries and modern trappings...

I was in Minnesota yesterday. I was hung up at the airport for 5 hours do to a flight delay.

People were behaving as you might think...complaining about the delay, very disgruntled. Some behaved particularly badly.

I tend to handle those situations with calm. Things happen sometimes and complaining usually only make the situation worse. In fact, I sometimes actually enjoy random times of unavoidable inactitity. It gives me time to watch people, study, read for pleasure, which I rarely get to do, listen to music, etc. It's an opportunity if you approach it properly. Besides...you're sort of there, and you're going to be there, so you might as well make the most of it.

It occurred to me that only a few decades ago, most people couldn't afford to fly at all and trains were much slower. Today flight is within reach of most Americans and it is relatively very safe and convenient for almost everyone.

We are a spoiled people.

First thing I do when waiting for hours in an airport is grab a few glasses of whatever amber lager is nearest to my terminal and take a little nap. Unless I'm at Schiphol. Just kidding...

But, then again, most people in generalare friggin' idiotic. As technology and its speed have increased over the years, consumers have developed an expectation for it toincrease the speedof the their daily lives as well. Of course, said technology was created by humans, and as such, is not immune from failure and disruption, much like everyday life. The younger generations have gone through a near-complete schism of fantasy and reality in this regard.

We need more people like my dad (body builder, world champion power lifter) to go around scaringignorant @$$holesinto silence. Almost got into it with a drunk at O'Hare recently. The drunk eventually scooted to the other side of the terminal, lucky guy.

Abso-Freek'in-lutely. Most folks today don't have a clue about sacrifice or inconvenience. We have done it to ourselves to a point.

Spoiled in some ways but deprived in others. Life was simpler when there weren't as many options. Some people today aren't able to slow down and enjoy the ride. Your experience in the airline terminal is a part of it. People are inconvienced due to a delay and are upset when the other option would be to sit in a car for a day or more driving to their destination. The want it now generation can be hard to please. Nice that you were able to enjoy your half full glass VC.

I hadn't thought of that, CI. That's very true. I'm in my 50's now and I remember times that were much simpler in a variety of ways. The funny thing is that I decided years ago to put a limit on what I'd own and what I'd try to do in life in order to be happier. In other words it occurred to me that for some people, they don't own things, their things own them. They spend so much time keeping things maintained and repaired that they have no time. They try to do too much and be too much. Too much career and not enough God and family.

Good post, CI. Happy New Year to you and your family. God Bless you.

Motrin. I skimmed that and then closed the window. It makes me sick. I don't know where that stuff is going but its not a good place. How can anyone be proud of that stuff?

V.C. your right .It is a sorry story .When you don't have the time to enjoy a hunt for what it is , "a hunt" then maybe it is time to take a serious look at your life and your priorities.

What really is important to a man that fails atone of thethings that gives us the most enjoyment? Between a sunny afternoon in October bow hunting whitetails or a snowy winter day following a great dog thru a grouse woods ,its hard to find enjoyment like this at any cost.

I have to be fast out at work but after that life slows down for me. When I can and going on a long trip I avoid interstates if possible. I like to take the two lane roads going at a leisurely 60 and going through the towns and actually SEEING them.
