Default 4:15 PM?

Needed to get some vehicle title work done today. Had to go in person because the vehicle is titled to me.

Had to go to the appropriate department at the courthouse.

They close at 4:15 pm. I go and come as I please with my businesses so it was no problem for me, but what about the people that work normal hours?

I guess they hire illegal aliens to go get the title work done? [8D]

They have to take off from work to get it done... Interesting closing time, 4:15pm. I guess that's so they don't get caught in the 4:20pm rush?

i've worked with several electeds who tried to make various aspects of government more consumer-friendly. where it failed, it invariably failed because of problems with the puiblic employee's union.

Somedays I think that government ofices (especially the DMV)aren't necessarily there to serve the people but are in place to employ people who are too worthless to earn a living in the private sector.

I can relate. Our post office is open from 9:00am to 3:30 pm and off for an hour and a half for lunch, 12:00pm to 1:30pm. Now, how much sense does that make. I simply have to take off work to do anything at the post office.

Would not suprise me, but I would like to think that illegal aliens might actually put in an honest day's work.

Speaking of illegal aliens and bureaucrats- when I applied for my marriage license, I had to wait in line behind a mexican couple who was having their marriage sworn in. They had an interpreter help with the ceremony. My wife went to the window first, they allowed her application with no questions asked. When it was mmy turn, they asked for a birth certificate, I asked "why?" the civil servant told me that if I'm born after 1/1/1970 I need a birth certificate to prove my citizenship. I told her I had a drivers license and can speak perfect english and asked her if that was enough. The lady told me, "no birth certificate, no marriage license" I asked her if the mexicans that were just married in thesame room had their birth certificates with them. She of course told me that was none of my business. I asked hte female dog if she could call the records department in the next country over to have my birth certificate faxed over since that courthouse was 75 miles away from my house, and the oneI was currently standing in is 50 miles from my house and I don't have time to make another trip. The female dog told me "no, you must apply for it, that's the correct process." She told me that an 'official copy' was needed and a fax will not do. I told her I work with government regulatory agencies much bigger than her pathetic little cubby hole such as the FDA and DEA on a daily basis, and a signed faxed document is considered official and legally binding enough. She told me that that is not the way they do things, and come back when you have an official copy of your birth certificate.

There is a reason why I really hate government employees- some ar ehte dumbest people on earth yet pull down better salaries and benifits than I do.

When I try to see things from the point of view of these government employees, I can understand that they probably grow tired of dealing with the same mundane questions and work items for years and years. However, it also occurs to me that their fatigue from the monotony of the job does not excuse being rude or curt, and I think they are just that all too often. In fairness, I will say that I was treated well by the person who waited on me.

The world is laced with mediocrity. Those offices should be opened at least 9 hours a day and should be up and running for all 9 hours in my opinion. Most other business entities are forced by competition to provide service commensurate with the customer's needs. I know that they are not a true business entity, but in a way, they are.

Because of the nature of my title work, my vehicle needed to be inspected. They checked the mileage and the serial number. I'm sure that is required for the protection of the public and I have no problem with that. I did however, have a problem with one of the other employees who walked by while another was doing the inspection at 4:05 pm and muttered under her breath, "These people who want an inspection at 4:15..."

I just laughed directly at her. It was clear though, that they consider it a birthright to be out the door at precisely 4:15 every day, despite how that might affect anyone that actually enters the building during their normal working hours.

I wouldn't want to standing in front of the back entrance of the place at 4:15. I'd probably get trampled to death.[8D]

If they had to spend 5 minutes in the private sector.......

most have NO concept of what life in the real world is like. in one of my employment incarnations, i tried to institute a monthly employee contribution for dollar one health coverage. 1/2% of pretax salary per month. there was a rebellion. you'd of thought i was skinning babies live by the way they reacted.

having jumped between the private and public several times, i have a fairly objective viewpoint. there are many fine dedicated public employees. just not enough.

today is, in fact, my last day in my current incarnation as a public servant. and believe me, i'm giddy like a school girl as i skip into the private sector.
