China is imposing new restrictions on foreign adoptions, barring applicants who are unmarried, obese, over 50 or who take antidepressants, according to U.S. adoption agencies.
The restrictions are meant to limit adoptions to "only the most qualified families," said the Web site of one agency, Harrah's Adoption International Mission in Spring.
A U.S. Embassy spokesman in Beijing said it was looking into reports of the new regulations. -Associated Press

I have no, and will never have any Biological children. My wife has had a hysterectomy. So my babies were all adopted. The sad thing with adoptions, the adoption board is more worried about the dead beat parents than they are about the babies. Both of mine went well, simply because the mother relinquised rights. I have a friend who he and his wife have had a baby for a year now. They have been in the process of adopting this child, when out of the blue, the drugged up mother decides she whats the babyback. So you guessed it, the baby went back to the biological Mother. And the kicker here, my friends are not guaranteed they will get first choice at the child when the mother goes to jail and the state takes the child. It appears the biological Grandmother will be "forced" to take the child. I say "forced" because my friends have inquired about the "ifs", that are pretty much going to happen, and the state said, "when a baby is taken from a parent, it is placed with a blood relative."[:@][:@]

think about it .......... China, one of the WORST countries in the world for human rights, where 1 child is the law and where daughters are hated from birth and thrown aside in favor of sons ......... this is the country given kudos for imposing certain limits on potential adoptive parents ?

No offense taken. My wife or I are not fat, depressed, or single. I agree with you. Way to many people fill a child is a entitlement. Its not, its a small human, and not everyone is capable of raising one.

Some people think having a child is an entitlement and will go to any lengths to get/have one... it's an unhealthy obsession IMHO,,, Got kids? Thank the good Lord and go on,,, Can't have kids? Big deal,,, find something else to occupy your time rather than whining about "poor old me" that can't have kids,,,, I get tired of hearing that crap from a select few,,
Ifferd, I rarely agree with you on anything, but this is a good one- though it shouyld go well beyond adoption. It would probably solve 90% of our country's social and crime problems if unfit parents weren't allowed to have kids- adopted or biological.

a fat, obsese man with inherited heart disease and diabetes marries a woman when they're both 18 with very similar problems ......... should they be allowed to have kids, knowing their children will be almost assured to be overweight, diabetic and have heart disease ?
