I see where Rummy is going to take a last trip to Iraq to say goodby to the troops. I hate to see him go. I for one think he got a raw deal deal. Where I come from the Buck goes to the top, it does not land on the next guy down. If things didn't go right in Iraq, How is it that the guy carring out the policy gets the wrap? The boss either causes things to happen or allows things to happen. I think Rummy served the country well and got shafted for it.[:@]
I am reading thru the book "see no evil", that basically talks about politics (especially the clinton years), that systematically destroyed the CIA and their effectiveness. So far its pretty good. I hated to see Rummy take the walk. Not sure what was accomplished by pushing him out.

RE: Rummy's last trip
I thought he was an arrogant, pompous jerk who should have been gone long ago. Great leaders surround themselves with people who will make them look good so what is Georges excuse. Booting him was too little and too late.

I've always respected those types, particularly in positions of military/defense leadership. Sometimes takingthe popular route with war and diplomacy onlysets up disaster down the road. He ran the DoD at times in which we seemed our weakest and our strongest. He saw usto the hearts of Iraq and Afghinstan. If anyone else thinks they can do a better job, I encourage them to send in their resume(s). He stuck to his guns and worked with what was available to him.
It's more arrogant and pompous to armchair quarterback when the guys over there in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere need our undivided support. Even with all of those pundit mosquitoes buzzing in his ears, he still kept his mind on the job and made a difference in the world.
