Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Cheap oil from Venezuela again offered to area families

Cheap oil by way of Venezuela will be on offer to poor families in the region for a second year in a row.

As of yesterday, low-income families can buy up to 200 gallons of oil at a 40 percent discount, which works out to about $1.34 a gallon. Citgo, the Houston arm of Petroleos de Venezuela, has provided 5 million gallons of marked-down oil for the effort, which was set up last year by U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah.

I would hate to say boycot Citco because of the American employees it would hurt. I do hate to support Goofy funny, but in the process of getting at him, we would hurt our own. What I find odd about this cheap oil thing is, Gooffy funny is willing to help our poor, but will do nothing for his. Can you say ulteriour motives.

Burnie... If Citgo is hurt by the boycott, that business will go elsewhere. Those folks can take their jobs to whereever that "elsewhere" is. If all the Citgos close down, they'll be replaced by something else. Exxon/Mobil, Shell, Valero...

Interesting question. Isn't Venezuela a member of OPEC? I'm actually all for developing alternative sources of oil (i.e. drilling the continental shelf off the East and West Coasts) and alternative sources of power, in order to reduce our reliance on foreign sources. But, I would say that Venezuela is probably "better" than some members of OPEC, and "worse" than others.

Your right, my bad. I agree. Lets drill our oil while we develope alternatives. But I guess that would not be lucrative enough for the fat cats.

I'm not sure why it wouldn't be "lucrative enough for the fat cats". It was certainly lucrative enough for them to develop the Gulf. The reason it's not being drilled on the East and West Coasts is because of the NIMBY crowds there. The "fat cats" are chomping at the bit to drill. It's the self-interested bastards on the coasts that won't let them.
