Even 5 years ago people would argue there was no proof that cig's caused cancer, and certainly not second hand smoke etc. Now ? Today we're seeing bans on public smoking, smoking in auto's where kids are present etc.
Somehow even those who manufacture tobacco put on their web sites and products they cause cancer.
Think about that .......... if I started a company and called it AmazingX and my product AXII was something that was known to cause cancer .......... would you as a consumer buy it ?
Or .......... if I told you that the Xcandles that I make, and the Xspray for bathrooms are all cancer causing, would you light them around yourself and your family ? Would you spray it ?
The old arguments of "its not proven" doesn't exist anymore, and those who thought cig's didn't cause cancer were lying to themselves - they were dead wrong.
Just amazing to look at smoking and how it still exists. People who have little to nothing will spend their last dollars on a smoke while their family goes hungry or without good clothes. Some smokers spend more on smokes than they do on their own clothes every year. And each and every smoker KNOWS they're playing Russian Roulette ........ and it doesn't phase them for some reason.
And the companies producing it ? They tell people NOT to smoke, yet are tickled that people DO and the money is great for them. Amazing .......
Smoking does not kill you today. The 20 cigarettes one smokes today are not going to kill one today or next week but well out in the future. The pressing concerns of today obtain priority and confronting the risk of smoking comes later. I smoked for 25 years and quit when I was 40, which was 10 years ago. I think the above explains how people who continue to smoke think. I will also say that smoking has its obvious disagreeable elements -- smoke film on the inside of car windows; strong unpleasant smell on clothes, hair, and house interiors; burn holes accidently introduced into clothes and/or carpeting -- but it also is pleasurable to smoke.
In the US educated people tend to stay away from smoking. Evidently continuing to smoke is incompatible with a rational analysis of one's life. Interestingly, well educated people in some European countries (France comes to my mind, but I would guess this applies in other countries too)and in Asia smoke notwithstanding the well identified health risks. Explain that!
Neither will AIDS or breathing asbestos ........ neither are really worth dying years from now, are they ?

to say that someone is incredibly stupid because they smoke might be as dumb as the kramer thread.
My statement was intended to be issue oriented. They are incredibly stupid as regards that particular issue. Intentionally poisoning oneself is not a sign of advanced intellect. And, anyone who thinks it is not incredibly stupidto smoke is in denial. Hell, even the cigarette companies say its stupid. And, to equate thinking that smokers are stupidfor smoking with being a racist is, well, insert an appropriate adjective here _________.
i can see this debate going nowhere fast so maybe we should skip all BS, go straight to name calling....... edit our own posts to save the moderators time. That way we can get straight to talking about black labs raping spayed cats, and anything else that makes absolutley no sense.
