Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

[/align]DENVER - A homeowners association in southwestern Colorado has threatened to fine a resident $25 a day until she removes a Christmas wreath with a peace sign that some say is an anti-Iraq war protest or a symbol of Satan.
Some residents who have complained have children serving in Iraq, said Bob Kearns, president of the Loma Linda Homeowners Association in Pagosa Springs. He said some residents have also believed it was a symbol of Satan. Three or four residents complained, he said.
"śSomebody could put up signs that say drop bombs on Iraq. If you let one go up you have to let them all go up,"ť he said in a telephone interview Sunday.
Lisa Jensen said she wasn"™t thinking of the war when she hung the wreath. She said, "śPeace is way bigger than not being at war. This is a spiritual thing."ť
Jensen, a past association president, calculates the fines will cost her about $1,000, and doubts they will be able to make her pay. But she said she"™s not going to take it down until after Christmas.
"śNow that it has come to this I feel I can"™t get bullied,"ť she said. "śWhat if they don"™t like my Santa Claus."ť
The association in this 200-home subdivision 270 miles southwest of Denver has sent a letter to her saying that residents were offended by the sign and the board "świll not allow signs, flags etc. that can be considered divisive."ť
The subdivision"™s rules say no signs, billboards or advertising are permitted without the consent of the architectural control committee.
Kearns ordered the committee to require Jensen to remove the wreath, but members refused after concluding that it was merely a seasonal symbol that didn"™t say anything. Kearns fired all five committee members.

This is pure insanity at its finest. I am the president of our home owners association and can say we have very similar bylaws. I have to question, how is this a sign? How would the board of the association prove it was in violation - by opinion? The association has very little if any ground to stand on in fining this woman. People need to chill.

First, this is exactly why I would never buy anything with a Homeowners association.

Second, I don't think what she did falls within the guidelines of their rules. I don't see it as a sign, advertisement, or bill board. It's a holiday decoration.

Third, I really don't see how the other people see this as an anti-war protest. I'm all for being in Iraq. But I would much prefer peace and have no problem with people praying for peace and displaying the peace sign.

Fourth, this is totally un-enforceable. An association cannot make laws/rules that supersede the Constitution. This would violate her freedom of speech.

And finally, satanic? I've never heard of the peace symbol being a satanic symbol. These people need to relax. Instead of telling her to take down her sign, they should just put up their own signs.

That's what you get for living in a "regulated" neighborhood. I am more upset about the ones that won't allow people to have pick-up trucks.

I'm in the camp that says "Don't buy a house where there is a homeowners association."

Yes, very productive and helpful, Buster. And you have to keep switching usernames? I can't imagine why.

This is ridiculous, this is just another example of political correctness in our country, doing more harm than good.
