Elderly Woman Killed; 3 APD Officers Wounded In Shootout
A 92 year old woman was killed by 3 plain clothed police officers executing a narcotics warrant at night.
ATLANTA -- Three Atlanta police officers were shot and wounded and an elderly woman killed at a house in northwest Atlanta Tuesday night.
The woman, identified by relatives as 92-year old Kathryn Johnson, opened fire on the officers from the narcotics division at a house at 933 Neal Street, according to officials. Authorities say they received a tip of drug activity taking place at the home and officers were headed to the house with a search warrant.
The woman's niece, Sarah Dozier, says that she bought her aunt a gun to protect herself and that her aunt had a permit for the gun. Relatives believe Johnston was frightened by the officers and opened fire.
Her relatives say Johnson had lived in the house for about 17 years.
"They kicked her door down talking about drugs, there's no drugs in that house. And they realize now, they've got the wrong house," Dozier said. "I'm mad as hell." Officials say they had the correct house and that the warrant they had was legal.
Assistant Chief Alan Dreher says the officers had a legal warrant and "knocked and announced" before they forced open the door. He said they were justified in returning fire when they were fired upon.
Dozier said there were never any drugs at the house. She says her aunt must have panicked when the police forced their way into the home.
She says the officers "shot her down like a dog."
The plainclothes Atlanta Police officers were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. One officer was struck in the arm, one officer was struck in the shoulder and one officer was struck in the thigh. All are expected to recover.

That's horrible. I can't believe it. I almost started crying while reading this.
The fact that a 92 year old woman can wound 3 trained police officers before they cap her ass is just horrible. My prayers go out to their fellow officers and their rangemasters!

I wish the old lady had been a better shot, obviously the cops blew the address when getting the warrant. I can tell you right now if anyone kicks my front door in there will be dead bodies and I will not be alone in the dead department.
How many of us would calmy do nothing if your front door was kicked in?
I feel sorry for all parties concerned.

So Taz, you would open fire on police officers who announced their presence?
It looks like, according to the article, that they had the right address, just bad info. Probably from another crook. A practice that is the best available info for cops since the liberals won't allow real police work anymore.

Would you want your 90 year old grandmother to let in several people in PLAIN clothes whosay they are police? Why were plain clothes officers serving a warrant anyways? And I'd be will to bet that their "knock" was there boot hitting the door.
This is nothing more than a major screw up on the part of the PD.

She was 92 elgallo, theres a good chance she didnt even hear them knock till they kicked the door in.Wonder if they even bothered finding out who lived there before getting thier warrant.Gotta agre with one thing, dont sound like they put any actual police work into it.

The police reports that indeed, drugs were found at the house, and that they had the right house. I think we all need to take a deep breath and see what the facts are instead of relying solely on the whatthe woman's daughter is saying.
RE: Elderly Woman Killed; 3 APD Officers Wounded In Shootout
First, I seriously doubt they were in plain clothes. They had to be marked somehow, it's the law. Besides, any cop would want to be easily identified so he is not mistakenly fired upon by fellow officers, let alone the bad guys in the house.
Second, I still maintain that it's a crying shame that a 92 year old woman can wound three trained officers before they can neutralize her.
Third, I'm not sure that a 92 year old woman has any business possessing a firearm. 92. Say it again. 92. Sure, everyone knows someone who knows a 92 year old who can "whoop my ass." Whatever. I would say the percentage of people above 90 that can safely own and operate a firearm are so slim, that it would preclude any such arguement.
And fourth, I was joking. Lighten up, get a life, yada yada yada. It was a joke. Hardy har har. I know, "It's no laughing matter that an old woman was killed. You're a disgusting example of a man.[]" Shut up. I thought it was hillarious.

Ill have to agree with that, either they screwed up bad somewhere during the entry or she had the reflexes of a cheetah and the shot placement to boot.It really is kind of amazing if you think about it
