1. What he said was said in anger, not in any way joking with a heckler or trying to beat him at his own game. He didn't just use the n-word, he reminded these black men that 50 years ago he wouldn't have had to put up with their crap. WHat he did was 10 times worse than Gibson's rant.
2. For all you people comparing a Hispanic or black comedian calling a white heckler a*Deleted* you need to examine the issue a little closer than you have so far.*Deleted* has in no way, shape or form ever held the power that that n-word has. The reason it doesn't is because it was never used by a dominant race to as a tool in its arsenal to keep the minority race down. You can't just gloss over that and pretend that*Deleted* or*Deleted* or anything like that are the same thing. There is no equivolent slur.

Exactly. And 300 years of systematic oppression is why the word *Deleted* has power and*Deleted* does not. But it is so much easier to just pretend everything is the same, isn't it? It's so much easier to stick your fingers in your ears and sing LA LA LA LA RACISM NO LONGER EXISTS!
Did you read my previous post? Do you have anything to respond to my second point?

Simple fact is a white man cannot use words a black man can. A black man, however, can use ANY word a white man can.
You see, its considers cool and fine for a black man to call another black man a *Deleted* in fact,*Deleted* is common language with blacks.
White people cannot use that word, its become the all time politically correct word - buts only a WRONG word depending on your race.
I personally find redneck extrmely offensive. You'll think thats funny, because I'm a white guy, that racial words could affect me huh ? But you see, you too have fallen into the politically correct trap that only black people can find offense to words, that somehow that have evolved differently than other people.
As long as people like you exist, racism will never die because YOU won't let it.
People in Hollywood are made of teflon and the public has a very shorty memory.
He'll continue to make them laugh and they'll continue to patronize his work.
Same with Gibson.
No big deal.
[/blockquote]
Couldn't agree more.
I think this is a bit over the top:
[blockquote]quote:
"Once the word comes out of your mouth and you don't happen to be African-American, then you have a whole lot of explaining,"
Veteran publicist Michael Levine called Richards' remarks inexcusable.
[/blockquote]
This, is over the top:
[blockquote]quote:
"I've never seen anything like this in my life," Levine said Monday. "I think it's a career ruiner for him. ... It's going to be a long road back for him, if at all."
[/blockquote]
For one, people love controversy, the entertainment biz thrives on it. Also, people are rather quick to check their minds at the door, so this will be easily forgotten - too much love for Hollywood.

Buster, you don't have any idea what you are talking about. You don't have any idea what it means to be oppressed. You have no idea what it means to be a race being systematically held down by another race based solely on race. You can take offense and be pissed off about someone calling you a redneck, just like I can take offense and be pissed off about someone calling me an elitist Northeastern *Deleted*, but neither one of those things holds anywhere near the same power as the n-word. Neither of those words was used as an influential tool in everyday speech, courts of law, film, songs, etc.
As far as black people being able to use the word and white people not? It's about black people being able to take back that word and take some of the power out of it. If you'd like to learn more about the concept, read Niger: The Strange Career of a Troublesome Word by Randall Kennedy. If you are inclined to read this book you might have your eyes opened to the power of this word as well as how it is currently used and why.
People like me are the reason racism exists? You know nothing about me - less than nothing because you are making huge assumptions about what you think you know.

I'd have to agree with Charlie P on this one. I also think that if black people truly want this word to stop being used, they need to practice what they preach. Everybody needs to stop using this word, not just white people or, in this case, a dumb wannabe white comic.

I agree to a certain extent, Cal, which is why my kids - the white one and the brown ones - will never, ever, use that word (well, if I hear them there will be hell to pay). However, it's more complicated than just saying, "Everyone stop using it."
Again, the whole reason this word has been co-opted by urban African-Americans is because they are taking the word back - they are robbing the word of its power by taking it from the whites and making it their own. Obviously, the vast majority of the urban black people using this word like they do have absolutely no idea why they are using it, but that doesn't change the psychology of it.

Anyone watch comedy central last night?Carlos Mencia and Dave Chappelles showswere both on it.A mexican and a black guy that have made careers out of running down people of all races.I seen whites, blacks, mexicans and asians all stereotyped, mocked, and even racial slurs used describing whites all in one hour of programming. They even had a native american on to make an ass of himself and make his people look bad.One sketch had a black man shooting a white man that was portrayed as a slave owner.
A white comedian possibly has his career ruined for one tirade and these people get thier own shows for doing basically the same thing he did but they do it every night of the week.I dont care what meaning the word niger has, if you cant see the double standard youre blind.Whites arent supposed to reference things that happened 200 years ago but blacks should be free to dredge them back up and portray murder as a comedy routine.Whos promoting hatred there?
Personally Im sick of the politicaly correct crap. They want to treated as equals, they want bigotry to end, but it never fails they bring it up.The race card has been dealt so much in this country Im suprised its not wore out.Every time they get arrested, lose thier job, get themselves in any trouble at all the white mans oppressing them again, the white mans being biased again, or the white mans an outright bigot, dont matter if they get themselves in that spot or not.And theres 100 different groups in this country that will take up thier cause for them.
If they want an end to racism then they need to to quit whining about it, 9 times out of 10 it has very little to do with the situation at hand anyway.Of course if it doesnt go thier way theres always rioting and looting.Yep, its all the white mans fault these people cant crawl out of the past[:'(]
Who cares? A comedian said some stuff that some people didn't like. So what? Don't go see him. Don't watch his shows. Don't buy his crap. The fact that you give a comedian so much importance is what is wrong with this world. He's an entertainer, not a world leader. He might not have even graduated high school for all we know. Either way, it don't matter. He's just an actor/comedian, his opinion should not shape ours. You give him the power by crying over something he says.
Same thing with the Dixie Chicks. Who cares about their political views. They just sing and dance. Whoopee. Neither they or "kramer" are or should be role models.
Besides, what happened to free speech? If what I say offends 99% of the public at large, is it no longer my right to say it? Does free speech only extend to the popular opinion? Think about it. That's why we have the KKK able to run around like a bunch of redneck retards in sheets saying whatever they want. Same with the Black Panthers, the Black Guerrilla Family, the Neo Nazis, the ACLU, John Kerry.......
Free speech is what it is. Just cuz you don't like it, don't make it wrong.
