Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Simple answer, YEP!

Although it was labled as "misleading the press". aka: lie [:'(]

He seems to be "softening up" quite a bit. Guess b/c he got trully humbled for a change. And there's no denying it. Heck, he even admitted the outcome was largely his fault! Is this a new "W"?

What I don't understand is that if canning Rummy was in the works for the past 2 weeks why didn't he pull the switch then and try to save the election. All the pundits across America forecast the election results accurately and he claims it was a big surprise to him that the Dems "Thumped the GOP". Is he that out of touch with reality? From my way of thinking if you want to win you do what you have to for success.

Admittedly I am dense sometimes. What exactly is the possible lie?

ORIGINAL: Ifferd

Many timesPresident Bush has said that Rumsfeld would be on the job till he (Bush)left office.

Just this morning, Dan Bartlet, advisor to the prez said Bush was already talking to Rumsfeld's replacement, Gates, more than a week before the election. The replacement was planned.

Rumsfled has "resigned" twice before according to his own words, but was refused by the president.
This was the lie.

If Rumsfeld has resigned twice before and was refused. Where is the lie. The bad thing here is the timing.

It's not a lie. It's a change of plans based on changed circumstances.

And, what do you mean by "again"? That implies that there was a prior one. Please explain.

I agree IPS, when Bush said those words he was expressing his faith in Rumsfeld's abilityand showing his support....however, these days those words get twisted around...ever speak to someone who accuses you of lying at the drop of a hat? Well chances are they are the liars themselves.

The only one's who don't see it as a lie are the only one's who say those words are "twisted". It couldn't be any more plain/cut and dry. Bush even admitted he "mislead the press". Or is it "stretching the truth".[&:]

To me, that's the "politically correct" way to say "I lied". Ofcourse he's not the only one who has ever lied. But, this thread is about him, not everyone else.

Bush can't win. These guys deride him for digging in his heels and say he's too stupid to recognize when a change is needed, and then they deride him and call him a liar if he does change.
