Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Condolences to Officer Gurley. Looks like he lost 1602-1117.

Too bad - he seemed like a stand up guy who was actually very concerned withthe unfortunate situation he found himself in.

Hey, guys, you are correct... This story is one that, from the beginning, was meant to deceive or give a wrong impression of me, and it did it's job. I'm sure I helped things along, too. I've been told I'm a terrible politician. I always say "I'll take that as a compliment!" hehe

Oh well. Personal responsibility - on the father's part - is the crux of the story to me... The father's personal responsibility. Now that this story is all over the community, state, nation, and world - thanks to the ingenious of the internet -I know where to find the father next time, and the child will be left out of it, as he probably should have been to start with. The problem was, though, that the father couldn't be - nevermind. See the previous thread to get the whole story...

=)

Everything always works out for the best. I may not see the best in losing, but I'm convinced it is for the best.

Thanks for thinking of me! I'll be seeing everyone around. I just posted a new thread if you know anything about legal aspects of epilepsy and/or seizures and the workplace... Need a little guidance in the next week or so.

The important thing is you ran a good race and didn't resort to smear tactics like that father. people like that don't have a lot of honor and never will.

Thanks to everyone. My wife still thinks I'm crazy for sharing my thoughts and concerns about the media frenzy concerning this 8 year old/library thing, the election, and ethical behavior (or the lack thereof), but ya'll have really assisted me in keeping focused and helped me consider all views... Though I don't agree with some views presented in these forums, it makes me appreciate the beauty of freedom to think whatever you want (even if it is wrong!) =)

Thanks again!

There it is, the crux of the matter. Had the matter been approached with the above in mind, things would have gone quite differently. What's the worse that could have happened? The library would be short a few books?

The father may be a real piece of work, but you, sir, were wrong and one cannot help but wonder if the election did not affect your actions and decision-making process also.

Good luck to you in the future and I say that with sincerity despite my view of your part in what transpired.

His part in what transpired?!?!? He handed a kid a piece of paper! Nothing else!!! He didn't even know the kid!!!

It's like if you washed up in a restroom, and as you leave, you hand a kid some paper towels. The kid tells his dad, and dad realizes that you are someone he doesn't like, so he cooks up a story about you harassing the kid in the men's room. Now you're the subject of scrutiny for a benign act. It sounds serious(harassing a kid in the men's room), so the press latches on to the story. Now people all over the country and theinternet make assumptions about you and your motives!

To me it would be justifiable homocide if an LEO handed a note to my son to give to me! Especially if he was plain clothes!!!!

I read several articles where the principal of the school filed complaints with numerous local agencies due to this officers behaviour. The principal said even he was intimidated by the plain clothes LEO handing the kid a note in his presence. The principal said that he has filed early retirement paper work due to the fact that he could not prevent this officer from handing this child a note resulting in him coming to the realization that he could not do the most important part of his job, protecting the children of his school.
