Default Bush to Sign U.S.- Mexican Border Fence Bill

Hope this fence is high enough and very slippery to climb...

WASHINGTON"” When President Bush signs a bill authorizing 700 miles of new fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border, he'll give GOP candidates a pre-election platform for asserting they're tough on illegal immigration. Yet the centerpiece of his immigration policy, a guest worker program, remains stalled in Congress.

17 Democrats (including many of the Demmy headliners) voting against the border fence bill, versus one Republican. And yet the Democrats say that the Republicans are pro-open border? The Liberty Post website encourages "ousting the GOP" so we can "secure our borders?" Kerry has criticized Bush's border policy, but voted no?

This must be some of that hypocricy that Ifferd speaks of . . .

Makes me sick since both of my VT congressmen voted Nay. Lefty Lehey and Geezum Jeffords fell right in line with the liberal path. Time for change here in the Green Mountain State. Only thing they need to add to the fence is gun towers.

maybe some of them voted against it because the bill provides no funding mechanism for the fence?

not to be a cynic (I support the idea of some sort of barrier) but without the money to build it, isn't the bill kind of an empty, meaningless gesture passed in the shadow of an election?

don't know. according to fox news radio it contained no funding mechanism.

gawd, this thing is gonna be a logistical nightmare. most of the border land is either held by local government or private landowners. the eminent domain proceedings alone could take years, and tons of legal fees.

Hey, NT, read up on governmental condemnation. you could put your kids through the ivy leagues on this one...
