Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Suppression of Voting?

We have been bombarded recently with articles & stories on how "republicans" look down on all religious folks & are corrupt. These stories are telling us - not so subtly - that we conservatives who have religious beliefs should not be interested in going to the polls this election. There is another segment who says that we should punish "republicans" because they have not lived up to each& every promise.

Should we punish all of any segment or party because of the transgressions & mistakes of a few? The logical answer is no. Some republicans have done wrong, spent like drunken liberals, & voted for things like amnesty for illegals. These republicans should be held accountable by their base for acting like democrats regarding spending & the illegal alien issue, but should the majority who have voted & acted properly be punished? No.

Let's turn this around. What have "democrats" offered that they should be rewarded with the majority& the hammer of power? Why should conservatives & religious people cut & run from this election?

Radical thought, posted before:

We have major issues facing our country. We have national security, the war on islamic fascism, border security, illegal aliens, taxes, spending, energy independence, judicial appointments, & civl rights like our second & first amendments that are critically important to the country we have & what we will leave our kids.

You may have other issues to add to this list. Why not examine each candidate for whom we may vote regarding the issues we consider important. See where they stand & what their records are on these issues. Vote for the candidate that most closely matches your views on these issues regardless of party. Aren't elections supposed to be about real issues? Taking the party away seems like it would be the right thing to do with something as important as our vote. We are individuals & the candidates are individuals. Though I am a conservative republican, I have done this & voted for a democrat before! More than once!

I have examined the candidates I support through the prism of how they respond to the issues I find important. Why don't we all do that?

Whitehorse that is exactly how I feel, but sadly the majority of voters in the US are to lazy or biased to do the work of finding out the truth on candidates, they do one of 2 things, they vote a party line or they determine who they will vote for by the 30 second commercials they here beleiveing them to be fact.

It's rare to hear a Democrat honestly tell you why you should vote for them. Instead, they sling mud and think that should convince you when it should disgust you.

oh stop, Cal. you're better than that. both parties sling mud with equal vigor. the guys that gave us Karl Rove* should not be complaining about mudslinging.

the fact is that in the last several years, nationwide the republicans have alienated many of the moderate swing voters. recent scandals in DC may have illuminated a disconnect between the party operatives in the beltway and their core evangelical base. the Rs may be in trouble.

recently the talk radio pundits like Hannity and Limbaugh have been trottting nancy pelosi around like the boogie woman in an effort to distract likely voters from the Rs'record. the challenge for the Ds will be whether they can accomplish anything positive if they are swept into power.

I guess the question is whether the "Christian Conservatives" or "Values Voters" are going to not vote in order to punish all republicans because of the mistakes & misdeeds of a few? Does a "punishment" vote or not voting to punish work the way one wants it to?
