Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

No sir I don't believe so, we have these guys on the run and they are reforming as a last ditch effort, IMHO.

Losing nope. Just there(the taliban,s ) claimed demise & defeat was a bit premature maybe. And or that that it was allabout over & done with there.

Reappearing in forcebut never gone.

In the spring when they sprung back up - it was said it was because it was spring& a last ditch effort by them then- in the summer the same?In the fall - a last big push falloffensive effort before winter sets in.....

The taliban are alsogetting abit of outside help just as they arein iraq.

Are we winning the war on terror? Yes we are overall if we keep in mind that it was not strictly a war against the Taliban and certainly not against Iraq or its insurgency!

We are winning in the following areas:

1. They have not struck again in any signifigant manner in the US.
2. Their orginization is fractured at best.
3. Their leadership is in hiding.
4. There is not a single country that the government is openly harboring terrorist.
5. Their finances are in a shambles.
6. Most of their senior leaders are dead.

Is the war over? No and it never will be, all we can do is continue to pursue them and keep the heat on them where ever they may be, they will strike again, but as long as we do not let our gaurd down we hopefully will not have another 9-11...... however that may not prove to be true in the case of a nuke, chemical, or biological attack that some how comes in under all our radar. The only way I can forsee that happening is if the group is very small and even in the planning stages of the strike the vast majority of the terrorist community has no knowledge of it at all. The most difficult part for them would be acquiring the weapon without any one talking about it.

yes, because by definition it's a war that can't be won. like the "war on drugs" or the "war on crime", there will aways be terrorism to fight.

maybe i'm just playing semantics, and i'm making a distinction without a difference, but i think pratically and from a policy stand point, it's a mistake to call our anti-terror policies a "war".

If the War on Terror cannot be definitively won (which I believe it won't be until human need is eliminated), then can we look forward to further erosion of our liberties for the rest of our lives in the name of the War on Terror?

I think (if anything)we're losing it to a certain degree. Meaning, less people are wanting to help us now so that is pretty much putting it all on us. We can't do it all. We haven't made any real progress in quite some time IMO.

I agree w/ most here. It's a war that can never trully be "won" anyway. So, a win/lose propostion is kinda unrealistic.

The two sides that could and are giving us the most problems, in Iraq, are killing each other. That is a positive note.

Seems ike that happened somewhere else to with a big victory speech and a mission accomplished banner.

Quote:
-- Early in the Iraq conflict, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld dismissed insurgents as "dead-enders." In 2004, President Bush said the battle against these fighters was "turning a corner." In 2005, he described a "turning point," and Vice President Dick Cheney said the insurgency was in its "last throes."
Quote:
The U.S. death toll is well above 2,700, and the coalition death toll just passed 3,000. Last month 776 U.S. troops were wounded -- the highest number in nearly two years. There is no sign the insurgency is waning, and no evidence to suggest it will any time soon
Quote:
"In September, we did see a rise in sensational attacks," Maj. Gen. William Caldwell, U.S. military spokesman in Iraq, said October 4. "Last week we also saw the highest number of vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices this year that were both found and cleared, and those that were detonated. The number of IEDs, or improvised explosive devices, is also at an all-time high
Quote:
he United Nations has reported a spike in Iraqi deaths this year, saying more than 3,000 Iraqi civilians died each month in July and August alone
Quote:
The violence in Iraq has "spiraled totally out of control," Jan Egeland, the top U.N. humanitarian official, said last week. He estimated 1.5 million internally displaced people who had to flee their homes amid the violence, and another 1.2 million to 1.5 million Iraqis who fled to neighboring countries.
Some universities and hospitals in Baghdad have lost up to 80 percent of their professional staff, Egeland said, and at least a third of Iraqi professionals are estimated to have left their country in recent years
Whats Bush got to say about it all?

Quote:
At a news conference last week, Bush noted that attacks rise each year during the month of Ramadan. And he argued the violence can be seen as a sign U.S. efforts are making headway. "Attacks and casualties have also increased recently because our forces are confronting the enemy in Baghdad and in other parts of Iraq," he said.
Funny he didnt throw a "Stay the course" line in there.More death, more explosions, more violence, and it means were making headway[>:]Of course the holidays were probably the real reason theyre still butchering civilians, killing coalition troops, and blowing **** up over there. If were losing the war its got a great deal to do with the fact were not changing anything, why are we stil doing the same thing we were doing two years ago if its obviously not working.
