Well it was both the state& federal goverment not just one -who tryed to stop the native casino& eagle harvest etc here i believe.

I think the US goverment will get you tho- also if you dont pay your taxes owed legaly to the goverment, with some of the moneys your get to.So nope cant just do whatever you want with the(your) moneys ussally in the respect either for a long time now.

Default RE: Bush tells us what we can't do with our money

Smokeman, I can understand your frustration, although I personally agree with the bill.

However, it's a little laughable that it is Bush's name alone that is attached on your post. Bush played a small part in telling you what you can do with your money.

Internet gambling is effectively prohibited in the U.S. by the Federal Wire Act of 1961, which reads:

Quote:
Whoever being engaged in the business of betting or wagering knowingly uses a wire communication facility for the transmission in interstate or foreign commerce of bets or wagers or information assisting in the placing of bets or wagers on any sporting event or contest, or for the transmission of a wire communication which entitles the recipient to receive money or credit as a result of bets or wagers, or for information assisting in the placing of bets or wagers, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.
This law was signed by John F. Kennedy, a Democratic president.

Now whether this law actually can include Internet gambling has never been ruled upon by the high court. The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that it does NOT apply to Internet gambling, but nevertheless, it has effectively kept online gambling operations out of the states. This was bolstered by an opinion issued by the Justice Department during the Clinton administration (Democratic president) that said that the Federal Wire Act of 1961 does, in fact, prohibit Internet gambling.

The only way you've been able to gamble through casino.net is because of a loophole that allows foreign gambling sites to target U.S. customers. This bill closes that loophole by prohibiting banks and credit card companies from making payments to online gambling sites. So, technically, this bill doesn't do anything with your money. It enforces something that was made illegal years ago but was made possible today by technologies not available when the original law was passed.

But that's all just details. What's funny is that your post mentions only Bush, and makes no mention of one of the bill's chief sponsors (Sen. Bill Frist). And it's hardly only Republicans who were responsible for this. One could argue that Dems (and some Republicans) in the House and Senate who voted for this bill last week were only doing so because it was attached to an unrelated bill regarding port security . . . that ugly game Dems and Republicans both play in Washington to force their counterparts across the aisle to vote a certain way. BUT, the House considered this same bill, unattached, in July and voted 317-93 in favor of it. Voting aye were 201 Republicans and 115 Democrats.

Oh, and the one person your post mentions ("King" George) isn't even a player in this yet. He has not yet signed the bill. Ironic, isn't it?

All we hear from some of you guys on this board is Bush this and Bush that. If Bush was helping a little old lady across the street you guys would accuse him of trying to push a helpless senior citizen into oncoming traffic. Sorry, I just find it hilarious that your post is all about what Bush is telling us what we can't do with our money whenever Bush hasn't even weighed in on this bill yet. Here, however, is a list of all the U.S. Representatives who also want to tell you what you can't do with your money:
