I recall several people on here saying that the vast majority of the issues in Iraq were caused by Iraqi insurgents... the below article sure does not indicate that. I am not saying that Iraqi insurgents are not doing a lot of the killing, but obviously a lot of it is the results of out siders stirring the pot. http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/09/28/D8KDTIN80.html
Quote:
The new leader of al-Qaida in Iraq urged Muslims to make the holy month of Ramadan a "month of holy war," in an audiotape posted on Islamic Web site Thursday. He also purportedly said that more than 4,000 foreign fighters have been killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion.
The man on the tape identified himself as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir _ also known as Abu Ayyub al-Masri _ the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, though the voice could not be independently identified. He is believed to have succeeded Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who died in a U.S. airstrike north of Baghdad in June.
"I congratulate the Muslim nation on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, the month of jihad (holy war). I ask God to make it a month for honor and victory for Muslims," the voice said.

Yep, and wouldn't it be so nice to have committed enough troops to seal the borders, and threaten Iran and Syria with dire consequences if they are linked to foreign fighters and aid coming across said borders.

Heck we can't even seal our southern border, they would have to bring the draft back to come up with that kind of man power.

I still maintain that most of the attacks are Iraqis attacking us simply because we are there. However,, Al Qaeda is on the increase in Iraq.
Ifferd you could very well be right, but to have Al Queda admit to 4,000 of them being killed indicates that there are still a ton of them there. BTW thanks for the kind words and God bless you and yours as well.

Theres estimates that currently there are 20,000+ insurgents in Iraq right now.Theres also estimates that theres been some 40, to 50,000 insurgents killed since the begining of this according to the Washington post and wikipedia.4000 foriegn fighters killed would mean that Iraqi insurgents still are the vast majority, foriegners would only make up around 10% or less of the casualties since the invasion started.
As far as leading & fomenting the "insurgency," I think there's little doubt that this is being done by outsiders who simply don't want a free Iraq to suceed. Last time I looked the plan was, as it has been, to stay there until the Iraqi security forces are able to handle the security for the entire country. They're on the way & making progress toward that, however they're not all the way there. After they do take over, I still think that base in Iraq would be a good idea.
