I posted this on another thread but it inspired me to discussÂ*it as an issue on its own merit.
Â*
What do we do about environmental issues?
Â*
The environment is our "house". Trash it, pollute it, destroy it and you still have to live in it.
Â*
I am continually astounded that on a forum dominated by hunters, I find (fromÂ*some members)Â*such disdain and flippancy towards conservation of all kinds.
Â*
If for no other reason than to perpetuate the sport of hunting, we should endorse environmentally sound practices.
Â*
Deer don't eat asphalt, fish don't swim in tar and timber doesn't growÂ*in concrete.Â*
Â*
Learn the difference in conservation and preservation.
Â*
In short, conservation is what most hunters andÂ*the US Forest ServiceÂ*do = managed, sustainable use.
Â*
Preservation is what is done in National Parks, hands off except to look at. Some of each is desirable, but of course, conservation is more desirable on a large scale because we must use the land.
Â*
We can have our cake and eat it too if we use sound judgment.
I agree with you 100% up to that point. As for global warming, it is debatable, at best. Certainly there is not enough evidence supporting global warming for one to be "stupid" if they don't believe it.

Global warming does exist , what's debateable is whether we caused it or not . Considering that the Earth has endured thousands of freeze/thaw cycles that can verifiably be attributed to axis wobble long before we ever existed I'm inclined to doubt that we're the cause .

Eloquent burble, Ifferd, and while I agree with your conservation angles, you will have to splain' yourself a bit.

Explain said disdain and flippancy, please.

Those who say that global warming isn't happening (and we shouldn't try to stop it if it were) are also wrong and stupid.
Â*
The science is there and it is sound. We are causing climate change by our actions.
Â*
You obviously did not do your homework with such a pompous yet thoroughly erroneous statement such as that.

Damn! As vc says,,, I should be charging you guys for this wisdom.

Ahhhh yes youngÂ*grasshopper,,, your eye will someday open.
Good grief. I hope yours do open, soon.

I am strongly pro-capitalism. BUT think that one has to keep a good eye on big business in terms of preventing environmental degredation. I also hope that one can discuss environmental issues without being labelled an environmental wacko or un-American. As it pertains the global warming, it all depends on the time scale you are using. Are we measuring over the entire existence of the planet, since recorded history, since the start of the industrial revolution, or starting 10 years ago. I've got good friends who are professional climatologists and they aren't even in total agreement about it.

Global warming or not, all thatcrap we pump into the airs having some bad effects on the enviroment. You got smog, acid rain, people having health problems due to the air they are forced to breathe. Its bad when they have to have a smog advisory alert in places.
Modern farming practices in most areas consist of cutting out everything thats not crops, including fencelines, road ditches, buffer strips along creeks, tiling out every low spot that might hold water, then spraying the ground with gallon after gallon of chemicals.Erosion, habitat loss, and water pollution go hand in hand with all this and the crops are never profitable for them.Ive watched species after species dissapear around here along with the habitat, some are very thinly populated, some are gone for good from this area.
Weve trashed a lot more then weve ever contributed to this planet and show no signs of slowing up.The approach most people seem to favor is this one

exactly. The earth gets warmer and colder naturally in cycles, theres nothing we can do about it. Also, for the past 60 years, the sun has been through a phase, where it is closer to the earth, making earth a slight warmr, but its all in natural cycles, we are deffinetly not the cause.
