Default Texas Demos vote agianst I.D. cards to vote.

The bill passed in the house 228-196. I only know the Texas voting record and it was;

All Democrats voted agianst it.

All Republicans voted for it.

In my feeble mind, it appears the Democrats might be looking for the illegals vote. Why else would it be a problem to have a photo I.D. to vote. As it stands, you have to have a photo I.D. to cash a check orbuy alcoholor smokes, so what's theissue with the Texas Democrats, if not some sort of ploy? Makes you say, hmmmmmmmmmmm?????

Do you have a link to the story? I'd like to send another nice letter to my wonderful congresswoman, Ms. Sheila Jackson Lee, thanking her for her concern for illegal immigrants' voting rights.

You might pose the same question to the judge in Georgia who recently struck down their latest attempt at a law requiring a state issued photo ID to vote as unconstitutional . The ruling alleged that it would infringe on the voting rights of those who couldn't afford said ID , which BTW is free to the indigent , and partly on the fact that such ID is not mentioned in the Georgia Constitution , which was written before the invention of the camera .

I read it in the News paper this morning. The Abilene Reporter News. It was off the Associated Press. You might check their sight. As for Lee, Good luck. How that loser got in office is beyond me.

It's called gerrymandering... They cut up a district to guarantee the election of a black to replace Barbara Jordan. The seat has subsequently been held by Mickey Leland, Craig Washington and Queen Sheila. So, apparently, the gerrymandering worked.

Here's a link to a current map of the district:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:TX18_109.gif#filehistory

Tell me those boundaries make any sense at all. They've got it rigged so she gets almost 90% of the vote. The Republicans have stopped even running a candidate in the District. It's a waste of time when all the racists in the district vote for her simply because of her skin color.

Yep, happend to a friend of mine. David Counts lost his seat the exact same way. I wont admit to being friends with a Democrate. Actually he was more of a Kennedy Demo.

ummmm...a slight correction: the Republicans are the ones who created the latest congressional districtmap of Texas. It was in the news quite a bit, so I'm surprised you didn't see it.

David was more of a Charles Stenholm/Pete Laney kind of Democrat.

Above link to the actual bill. In fairness, there were a few democrats - about 5 - who voted for it & 3 republicans voted against it. This is an issue where there is widespread support across demographics; wonder why the democrats voted as a bloc against it?

The Texas 18th congressional district has been gerrymandered to include a vast majority of black voters since the Barbara Jordan days. The recent remap couldn't have changed that without Jesse Jackson and his crew screaming RACIST!!! RACIST!!! at anyone within earshot. Other districts were significantly affected. Ours was not.
