Horse Slaughtering: The New Terrorism?
Congress hasn't done much this year, but few bills have stirred more passion than one to protect horses from being turned into horsemeat.http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1532672,00.htmlthe Horse Slaughter Prevention Act. It passed the House by a vote of 263-146 Thursday (with a large majority of Democrats supporting it, even though they griped that the chamber had more pressing matters). Here's the issue: about 90,000 horses are sent each year to three plants in this country (two in Texas and one in Illinois, all foreign owned), where they're slaughtered and the meat is shipped to restaurants in Europe and Asia. Is Congress horsing around? What are they to do with all the horses that need to be put down then?Weird article title....

Bingo. What are we going to do with hundreds of thousands of extra horses?

If you eat Elk, Caribou,Moose and Bear, you will eat Horse!
Montevideo, Uruguay is the largest exporter of horse meat products in the world. We buy and eat Tasajo which is horse meat cured in brine from Uruguay.

We have butcher shops here that sell horse meat inspected by the USDA.

Just some stupid "feel good" policy. Why not slaughter horses for their meet if they are aquired legally. Where's hollywood when you need them? I'm sure it won't be long.

There's always an alternative to horses

In the '60's i remember my folks bringing home and cooking horsemeat...don't remember where it came from but it was OK .. a little tough but that probably had more to do with my mom being afraid that it carried something bad therefore she cooked it into submission.

I have also eaten freshly slaughtered Welsh pony. MMMmmmmm good!
Right off the grill I couldn't believe how wonderful it was.
I used to work at Greenfield Village (now called THE Henry Ford) as a teenager, and one of the "extra" drivers that would come in for special events was a farmer from the Monroe Michigan area. He'd invite us down in the spring to go bowfishing for the carp in his flooded fields, and then treat us to a barbecue afterward. He also raised Welsh ponies...and one of the spring barbeques included a pony he culled and slaughtered.

People get their panites in a bunch about some of the stupidest things.
We have no qualms about eating some of the craziest things but mention an animal that is not normally thought of as food and watch the outrage follow.

Right on,06! That's like telling the other half of the world not to eat Dog, Monkey or Camels and they think we are crazy for turning Horse's into Alpo Dog Food!

Funny, but years ago some French actress (Bridget Bardot?) was raising a fuss about killing and eating dogs in South Korea. She said that no civilized society would do such a thing. I guess that she thought that killing and eating horses in France was a much more highly civilized activity.

In Kumamoto, a city in western ***an, they eat raw horse meat. It is called basashi and considered adelicacy. When I was serving in ***an I was offered some and although I never hada problemeating raw fish, I as politely as possible declined the raw horsemeat.
