Default Yet another gas price ranting thread!!!!

My wife paid $2.48 for regular yesterday. After driving to five stations that carry diesel, I settled on filling up for $3.15. Now I don't mind a few pennis difference, even $.10, but SIXTY FREAKING SEVEN *#&$*^&#%& CENTS?????!!!!!!! That's over 15 bones per tank. That's substantial in my book. Wow does that piss me off.

And they aren't trying to drive the economy into the ground by crippling the trucking/train/shipping/heavy equipment industry?

What about your area? Is there this great of a difference between diesel and gas?

I guess that answers the question about refining costs raising the cost of gas. Just another excuse to make more money and thumb their noses at the general public. Isn't diesel lower on the evolutionary scale as gas? They should be practically giving it away but no they would rather gouge because they can.

Not a diesel expert but I know it does not require as much refining as gas. If I am not mistaken what we call diesel andkero. today used to be considered by-products of gasoline production many years ago and was generally discarded but today they have us hooked on that as well.

Bob, 47 cents difference here, diesels more then regular gas.The ethanol theyre trying to push off as a viable alternative is also more then regular unleaded here, not a great selling point for the farmers that are hoping it catches on big[:'(]

I remember when EVERYONE wanted a diesel because of the great gas mileage a a few pennies cheaper on gas.

SAMS locally had gas for $2.38 a gallon I kid you not this weekend. Most everyone else is $2.64 right now I think

Welcome to "new desiel".
New improved formula (as required by Governmet)
New improved price (thanks to the extras the Govt requires)

There have been several grades of desiel fuel for years, but now they are required to sell the "highest" grade only. With the lower sulfur content/extra steps to remove the sulfur, increased additives, etc, it now costs more to make than gasoline. Years ago it and kerowere the "leftovers" from making gas, but now they have to refine it further and go thru Xteen steps to remove all of the garbage that they used to leave in.
Just like how it was more expensive for unleaded gas than the old original regular that had lead.

Just was reading the USA Today at work. Saysthat part of the prices staying high is the pending change to the new formula and the worries that there may be major problems with the refining. Going from 500 ppm sulfur down to 15 ppm. And that demand is still high for diesel with the start of the season of it's highest demand while gases "high-useseason" is ending.

They are expecting gasoline prices to drop even more but for diesel to stay the same for some time if not increase more with the fullchangeover to the new formula.
