Im sure all of you guys have herad a story about something along these lines, at some point or another. Well here's mine. In my high-school, we have a "student handbook" that we are obligated to sign. In this handbook, it states that we have the "option" to stand up for the pledge of alligence in the morning. My Carpentry instructor,(the best teacher Ive everhad), hits on this topic from time to time. he says that if we have theright not to stand up, then he has the right to an opinion, and he lets it be known that if he sees you not standing up for the Pledge, he will take you as unpatriotic and loose a level of respect for you. It makes me mad when people disrespect the flag, personally. And there is a kid in my school that purposly threw a flag on the ground, and ALOT of kids in my school let him know that they think he is a jerk. I let it known that if I see someone disrespecting the American Flag or not standing up for the pledge, I call them an "unpatriotic communist", and I have on several occassions, because I beleive if they have the "right" to not stand up for the pledge, which in my eyes they are disrespecting the country that they are so lucky to live in, then I have teh right to call them a commie, but thats just me, I dont stand for it, and theres nothing anyoen in my school can do about it because they know I have the same rights as any other student. what do you guys think?

RE: standing up for the pledge of alligence (sp?)
Your Grandpa taught you well Travis. Everyone has the right to say what they want including you. If I see someone stomping on my flag I have the right to voice my disapproval and do something about it.

I don't understand where it became OK to not participate in The Pledge. When I was in school, we did not have a choice...but then again...we never considered NOT reciting the pledge. It's an affirmation of our love and support for our homeland. Those who choose not to take the pledge are not just disrespecting either the flag or those around them. They are affirming that they DO NOT VALUE their citizenship in the USA, and even though they live and prosper here, they choose to NOT support this great Republic built by our forefathers and paid for in their blood. They are a disgrace and whatever abuse they must put up with, well then, so be it. A parasite sucks the life out of it's host and contributes nothing to the host...this is how I see these skunks.
I have to admitt, last year when my 1st grader came home and recited the pledge to me I was very suprised they were still doing it in school. So much has changed since I was there, the Christmas parties became the winter festival or some damn thing. They werent allowed to celebrate any holidays when she was in head start 2 years before that, how offended can a 5 yr old get about a valentine card or making a paper turkey?
A lot of what you see goes back to the parents and not the students, if they are taught at home to be unpatriotic, or to scorn religion or thigs like that it will carry over for the rest of thier lives.I hve taken a slightly different approach in parenting then some I suppose, for instance Im not a real religous man, the problems I have with arent with God but with the organized aspect of it.Yet I send my kids to Sunday school, bible study, and lately my daughters taken to going to a different church group with one of her friends that meets every week. They can make up thier own minds about how they chose to worship, not putting much pressure on them to go seems to have made it fun for them and they love it.Hopefully it will carry over.Ive tried teaching them patriotic values and good manners without shoving it down thier throats, I get a lot of compliments on how good they behave and how polite they are.Im not saying this would work with all kids or all parents but it seems to have mine on the right track so I let them run with it.Its to bad theres a segment of the country force feeding thier kids the more negative values, theyre going tocarry them over for the rest of thier livesand leave a entire generation with a jaded view of whats really important in life
My kids attended school with the kid in Fredericksburg Va. who started this whole mess in Va., yes they did win the case and the kid did not have to stand nor recite the Pledge, the first day he exercised his new right my daughters told me the entire class recited the Pledge the clearest and with the most meaning they ever had. The kid became a pariah, he lost every friend he had and was constantly told he was a jerk!
He moved the very next year and there has not been one kid that has not stood for the Pledge and recited it according to my daughters. BTW they also still say "One nation under God"!
Christmas is still celebrated in our public schools in my area, they also celebrate Kwanza and
Hanukah. I have no problem with the school sytem acknowledging and showing respect for others beliefs, which is probably why Christmas is still in our school system.

A lot of men and women died for that flag, these "intellectuals" should thank their lucky stars they have a choice. Standing and reciting the pledge is the least everyone could do for those who paid the ultimate price and for the families they left behind.

do a spell check for goodness sake ..... it doesn't take 2 minutes !
as Ive said before, THIS IS NOT A SPELLIN CONTEST!! But anyway, thanks for all of your support guys, Im glad y'all think Im dfoin the right thing, cause I sure think I am. In my eyes, the lEAST they could do is stand up and cover their hearts...but I know I take my hat off, put it over my heart, and recite it as loud and as meaningfull as I can.
petasux, I have to sya that I think that you are raising your kids great if you ask me, thats basically how my mother nand father have/still are raising me, and of cource my Grandpa has a different stance on things, (he has the most influence on me and is my hero by the way), ever since I can remember he has been always telling me how important it is to ALWAYS show my pride for my country taht I am so fortunate to live in, and to NEVER hide my love in God, in school, in public, anywhere. Im all for showing respect for other religions/faiths/hollidays, but I deffinetly do not agree with taking Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, ect, out of school!! it makes me sick!! as you all have guessed Im not a very Politically correct man

Well for starters, just watch while attending any event that has you stand for the National Anthem. Some people just sit or stand and talk just waiting for it to finish. Really pizzes me off but than again this a free country, even ifsome peoplewont stand up and acknowledge the flag of the greatest country in the world........
