How does something like this make it to the Supreme Court? If it took place at a school sanctioned event how did it ever make it past maybe the school board level and into the courtroom at all?
I remember being suspended from school myself for behavior at extra curricular activities and Im pretty sure I knew beforehand that it would happen.I just got my ass beat when I got home and Im fairly certain that nobody ever threatened the school with a lawsuit or even gave a thought to my right to free speechI wonder if stripping the parents of thier ability to discipline thier children is going to spill over into the schools not being able to with cases like this making it this far[:'(]
i havent heard any more Taz, I was hoping maybe somone in here was more familiar with the case then I was.
They used to have a rule when I was in high school, if you were caught drinking you were ineligible for sports for that year, didnt matter if you were drinking on the weekend 30 miles from the school.I always thought it was a crock that they could punish you for something that was actually between you, your parents, and the legal system and had nothing to do with school or related events.I guesse thats why this artical caught my eye this morning, the noticable difference being that when i was 17 and drinking beer a crime was being committed where all this kid did was unrolled a banner in a public setting.
Frederick, then a senior, was off school property when he hoisted the banner but was suspended for violating the school's policy of promoting illegal substances at a school-sanctioned event.
"The principal's actions were so outrageous, basically leaving school grounds and punishing a student for a message that is not damaging to the school," said his attorney, Doug Mertz.

Well, they'll stone ya when you're trying to be so good,
They'll stone ya just a-like they said they would.
They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to go home.
Then they'll stone ya when you're there all alone.
But I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
Well, they'll stone ya when you're walkin' 'long the street.
They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to keep your seat.
They'll stone ya when you're walkin' on the floor.
They'll stone ya when you're walkin' to the door.
But I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
They'll stone ya when you're at the breakfast table.
They'll stone ya when you are young and able.
They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to make a buck.
They'll stone ya and then they'll say, "good luck."
Tell ya what, I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
Well, they'll stone you and say that it's the end.
Then they'll stone you and then they'll come back again.
They'll stone you when you're riding in your car.
They'll stone you when you're playing your guitar.
Yes, but I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
Well, they'll stone you when you walk all alone.
They'll stone you when you are walking home.
They'll stone you and then say you are brave.
They'll stone you when you are set down in your grave.
But I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
