Delaware a slave state?

Biden is really stretching it with this claim! Yes I know that at one time slavery was alive and well in all states, but traditionaly Deleware was not considered one of the "Slave States"

If slaves were ever bought and sold there then Delaware was just as surely a slave state as any other . Were they ? Both this map and my recollection tend to say yes:

Generaly Kevin a "Slave State" has been considered one that seceded from the Union, I agree that Deleware was a slave state according to the Compromise of 1850, but when push came to shove when it came to recesession they did not feel that slavery was an issue worth seceding for.

Neither did Kentucky , they just waited to see who won .

Anyone directly involved in The Triangle Trade was a slave state , and Delaware was . Pitching or catching , you're still in the game .

all the states up until the Civil War were "slave states" I know of alot of places in Ct where tehy used to get shipments of slaves way back when. Bt what I dont like is when people make the Civil War out to be "the war to free the slaves", because it really wasnt, slavery was just one issue in many during the Civil War, and to quote General Grant.. "If I thought this war was about slavery, I would lay down my sword and immidietly surrender it to the other side"

Travis it does my heart good to see that even some Northerners know that slavery was but one of the reasons behind the Civil War.

I didn't know that Indian Territory (Oklahoma) was an official slaveholding area.

If my memory serves me correctly, there were some Indians that owned slaves.

Come to think of it, during the Civil War, the Cherokee nation was split into pro-Union/seccessionist factions because of large numbers of slaveowners in the group.

There were also a few black slave owners, one of them was a Colonel for the Confederacy.
