Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default HNI Sponsorship

How many folks out there would be willing to donate cash towards their membership?

Maybe join up as a member/sponsor? Would a minimum donation of 10 dollars offend anyone?

I for one would be willing to sponsor.

Even if it would generate the level of revenue that they currently receive , which I doubt , it would only serve to restrain them from expanding their business except perhaps as a private club like NAHC . NAHC , however , also has advertisers , some of whom are canned ranches . Bottom line , it's their business to do with as they see fit , we don't have to patronize any advertiser that we don't like .

Well, Canuck if it bothers you so much, you could make your own web page and ask everyone to post over there. Its a thought. I have been on hunting net for like 6 years or whatever. Never worried about the sponsors. Now seems to be a hot topic for some reason.

I feel it is much more than a sponsor thing. HNI is a good site and a way for all sportsmen to get information and share ideas. One problem that is occurring lately is that the sport appears to be changing. Some may feel for the better but others like myself are worried that the sport is being degraded and becoming more vulnerable through some of these changes.Ten years ago if someone had penned deer for sale and offered hunters a chance to kill one for any amount of money they probably would have been ridden out of town on a rail. With the renewed focus on trophy hunting and the constant blitz onCable TV showing weekly kills obviously from game farms the impressionable public equates that to hunting. Some of these people who are force fed this crap believe that is hunting and they in turn will teach their youngsters that mentality. If people don't speak up now it will be too late to stop it. When I was taught the sport of hunting it was a way of life for the whole family and ethics and good sportsmanship were important. Respect for the animals was stressed and anything else was frowned upon. HNI has a choice. They can continue to take any sponsor regardless of their business practices and ethics or draw the line and be part of the movement to keep the sport just what it was.Since HNI is a hunting and fishing site they have a vested interest in seeing the sport remain pure.If the Gentrys and Jimmy Houstons of the world continue to bring the sport down it will be easy for society to find fault with it and eliminate it. We need to police ourselves and HNI could do more for the cause than any one or hundreds of us. This is really important and if hundreds of members emailed their wishes to HNI they might take it to heart and see it would be the best decision to publicly draw the line to "fair chase only" hunting.

Dad Gone Champlain, think you take this internet stuff way too seriously? Just a thought. You know how many hunting pages there are out there. Take your pick.

You can't physically make anyone do anything. You can't make people want to do it the hard way because thats what you do. Just sit back and enjoy the mindless junkfood that goes back and forth. Its just the internet.

That is the beauty of the internet and this forum. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and I respect yours. It isn't a question of the hard way or the easy way. That has nothing to do with the real issue. It is the same problem that plaques our society as a whole in recent times. When I was a kid we played ball and did all types of things outdoors. We learned to hunt and fish because it was natural. Almost all the kids did it where I grew up. Todaysome kids would rather stay indoors and play video games or watch TV. Not that these are necessarily bad things but they must be done in moderation. It appears that every generation takes an easier path. My grandfather came here when he was 12 from the "old country" and worked to get enough money to send for his parents and siblings who were still in Italy. There wasn't much money then and they learned that the bounty of the wild could provide them with food and enjoyment at the same time. But a harvest without rules wasn't good and they taught their children the respect that must be shown for the sport and the animals. That was just the way it was and my father in turn taught me that. My father was a hard working man but IMO had it easier than his folks. I came along and feel that I did pretty well because I still have the values that were taught to me from my ancestors. My kids have it easier still. Every generation tries to do more for their kids than they had and to provide a better life. Things are easier today and my concern is that it will change the core values that I feel are important. You can take the attitude that it doesn't really matter or that it is bigger than anyone can change. I don't view it that way. Who knows...My ideas which are posted here might make someone who is on the fence decide that core values and ethics are more important than a set of bought antlers. I believe that eventually there will be sufficient pressure to eliminate canned hunting practices everywhere. I would rather be on the founding footings of that movement rather than have to change in the end. I won't quit harping on this subject here until I am banned so if it bothers you then please block my posts from your computer. Do the right thing is more than just a saying at my house. Have a great day all.
