I understand that these people want their home back and so most of them are relying on the goverment to pay for it, but what did they expect their city is like what 8 feet below sea level. In my openion if you decide to live somewhere below sea level or by the ocean where Huricans hit all the time stop asking for the goverment to keep buying you knew houses and if Congres puts 250 billion of our tax dollars in to rebuilding New O and buying new houses who knows when the levies will break and they will have to do it all over again. What are your alls thoughts about this.

Being a capitalist, I believe that those who've had paid and up-to-date flood insurance should get a check to either abandon or rebuild their property. While it's nice to think 'The Government' can help, I think it's pretty arrogant
and downright parasitic to DEMAND the government rebuild private holdings. By 'The Government', THAT'S US FOLKS ! It's nice to help a neighbor, and I agree there should be medical assistance and food and water supplies should not be interrupted. But in light of the DEMAND for government money to rebuild, I think there should be a VOTE so those of us who actually pay their taxes can do the deciding on whether or not to rebuild private property in a crooked state in a location 8 or more feet below sea level behind substandard levees. 'Nother option is to relocate 'em to a place where they won't be backstrokin' next time there's a hurricane.
Nagin has been hollering for money to get people rebuilding both homes and business back in New Orleans..And yet the levees are only now, after a fulll year back to pre Katrina strength.Theyre not reinforcing them with concrete and steel at this point because theysay theres no money for it.Theres still debris and demolished homes everywhere.I read recently the biggest money maker down there is guided tours of the storm damage.
But theyre in the process of spending 230 million to rebuild the SuperDome.Couldnt that money have been better used in the clean up effort and getting people back on thier feet?I dont really have a problem with the government footing the bill for a lot of this, we spend billions of dollars every year in foriegn aid to other disaster stricken countries. How many billion did we send out to Sunami survivors alone?
I do have a large problem with all the money going to government contractors and remaining largely unnacounted for.I have a problem with the priorities I see down there from the state and local governments.I definately wonder what happened to the billions of dollars the public contributed to other aids and charity programs that were supposed to benifit the people down there.
i guesse at this point Id have to see pretty solid evidence of some accountability and prioritizing before Id be in favor of sending anymore money into that state. Why spend billions of dollars so two or three contractors can get rich and accomplish very little when theres thousands of people without employment?I cant help but think theres been a pretty good chunk of change thats been used for nothing more then lining a few peoples pockets at this point in time.
And what if another Cat 5 , or even a 6 , hits right now ? What about next time ? Should they be rebuilt each time ? I say no , move your butts inland on higher ground and do it with your own money . Those levies won't take too much more , and when they begin to go en masse the Gulf will swallow NO for good . Why sit there hoping it won't happen when you know it will . Move upstream .

Asking the federal government for help rebuilding something that will get destroyed again is BS. If you choose to build in a hurricane or flood zone, you should do so at your own risk.
