Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default What Should the U.S. do in Lebanon??

What does everybody think the U.S. should or shouldn't do in Lebanon?

I think the US should really think twice before jumping into anything to do with Lebanon, aid or otherwise, remember the marines that were killed ?

Lebanon, Israel, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea... Can't take care of all at once (Unless we take Mod7's approach). Either prioritize or throw darts at a map. We sure don't seem to prioritize well. I'll go get the darts...

I think Israel is capable of supporting themselves on this one.

The biggest potential problem I see is that it is quite likely that Hezbollah will resume attacks on Israel while the UN force is there, & Kofi Annan will keep them there, in the way of Israel's response. The US should take a hard stance on disarming Hezbollah & be prepared to pressure the UN should the UN force fail & simply be in the way.

My vote would be to participate as a member of the UN only. No aid, no additional military support. Israel took the ball and ran with it much to the surprise of Hezbollah. They were expecting a small retaliation but got much more than they wanted. Now international pressure will do what Lebanon should have done in the first place. Push Hezbollah out of the region and back to Iran and Syria where they belong.

The last thing we need to do is put any troops on the ground in Leabanon, the one thing that Heballah likes the best to kill next to an Isreali is an American! The only thing an American ground force would do there is increase the temptation on Hezballah to break a fragile truce.

We need to put all the diplomatic pressure we can to disarm Hezballah and let the UN and Lebanon do what should have been done years ago.
