Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default First deer hunting law conviction...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/south_of_scotland/4998756.stm

Could this wave of sentiment take place in parts of this country?
Why do you think it could/couldn't take place in the USA?

This wave of sentiment as you put it already exists in parts of this country.Trapping, bear hunting, cougar, and even dove hunting among othe things have been affected with closed season and outright bans.

The conviction was welcomed by the League Against Cruel Sports.
Sounds like a Scottish version of Peta or any of a number of other organizations right here in the US to.

We get the bum's rush every spring in NJ when they talk about the fall Bear Hunt for black bear. Personally, I see lots of anti-hunting sentiment here in the New Jersey; a county-sponsored hunt in Mendham was instituted to reduce deer populations in county parks. We paid for special park permits and we went down to the police range to qualify with our shotguns. THen we were warned that there are residents whose property is adjacent to park land and whom would prosecute for trespassing for this hunt. There were no maps issued, property owners were not required to properly post their property to indicate one might be trespassing, and the county would not demark park boundaries. After all that, I tore up the special permits. Let the morons hit the deer on their way home from work, and let their kids get Lyme disease. I'll hunt where I don't need to worry about getting arrested.

So, I guess the short answer is that in areas where 'bamiists' prevail, there will be no hunting until deer populations get so large that the state game department forces the issue against local property owners' protests. In areas where hunting is a traditional activity, we will be able to hunt. It's that simple....

Here's a link to the Act in question , it seems to address only hunting with dogs , not hunting in general:
Protection of Wild Mammals Scotland Act

Thanks Kevin, I was going to point that out.

Let us think about it, if you saw some one running deer with a dog either out of season or where it was illegal, what would you do?

Another important thing to note is they were out shooting rabbits and there were no charges brought up on that.

It also appears from the article that the only one actually chasing the deer was the dog , not the alleged hunter , but somehow I doubt that will make much difference once it gets to court . One of the biggest lessons I learned traveling overseas was to respect their laws , now you know why . That scenario is very unlikely to happen here in our lifetime for the simple reason that we aren't governed by socialists just yet . We still have a relatively high level of freedom here , subjects of the crown don't .

Actually Im pretty sure if my dog decides to run a deer when I have her out if they want to get nitpicky about it they can write me up for harrassing wildlife here.We had a crippled deer lay down in a ladies field about 5 yrs ago that made it across the fence, she wouldnt let us go in after it and called the DNR.In the meantime her dog went out and was barking at the deer and grabbing its leg when it started to get up.The DNR told her the only one breaking the law was her by letting the dog continue to do it.t applies to huntng to, something about having your dog on a verbal leash

The charge in this case was hunting , not harassing . The article also said that the kid called his dog back and leashed it immediately after somebody began yelling at him , which tells me that he had plenty of control over it . Here it would be harassing , there who knows ?
