Default No bowhunting sidearm vs. constitution

Here in PA, it is illegal to carry a sidearm while bowhunting. I know it's the same way in many other states as well. How can this be? Doesn't that go against the 2nd amendment? Sure, it should be illegal toUSE a sidearm to kill a deer while bowhunting, but why is it illegal to carry just for protection? It's just @$%#ing rediculous if you ask me.

The law is the same here in NC. You aren't allowed to carry a pistol during muzzleloading season either. It is obvious why they make that law. If it weren't law, we'd have a bunch of knuckleheads poaching deer. As much as we'd like to think hunters are A-OK, there are a lot of dirtbags that couldn't care less about ethics.

I saw a video of my neighbor who had to finish off a deer with a knife. He was shooting down on her and hit it in the back and paralyzed her back end. But she was just sitting there looking around like she was just bedded down. Ugh. But, if the idea is to allow for primative weapons, that certainly qualifies.

But the bottom line is that you have a choice not to hunt if you don't want to be prohibited from carrying.

I have had to finish deer off with my knife cus the bozo's I hunt with can't aim or judge distances......nothing harder than to see a wounded deer struggling or just sitting there...bow hunters really need to make sure the target is perfect, but excitement sometimes gets the better of us and we let the arrows fly.

I had to stick one bow hunting one year, I spined her because she jumped the string. It sounded like I had hit a 2X4 with the arrow, she dropped like a ton of lead bricks.

I can understand both sides of this argument. If you're bowhunting, you should be bowhunting and there is a legitimate reason to prevent poaching of animals with firearms in bow season. Having said that, I would definitely want to be packing a large pistol if I was bowhunting dangerous game.

The law is the same in Tennessee and I would imagine just about every state. Like CalHunter, I see both sides of the issue. But as for the 2nd Amendment aspect of it, I don't think that would hold up. There's never been a precident set by the courts under which the 2nd Amendment allows us to carry a firearm anywhere we please. If that were the case, we could carry them into banks, courtrooms, schools, etc.
