Are you better off today, because Al Gore was defeated by GWB?
About the only two arguments I can think of in favor of GWB is:
The plus: Tax Cuts, we were\are over taxed.
The negative: Any benefit you may have received from the Tax Cuts has been more than ate up several times over due to our spending in Iraq.
(Also I am not so sure that the state of USA economics isn"™t more influenced by world economics than who is president.)
The plus: Regardless of how bad Iraq has been handled, at least certain world parties now know that America still has a bite behind the bark.
The negative: Those parties also now know just how to make that type of war so costly that the USA will be more hesitant than ever to start that type of war.
On the whole:
Are you better off?
My answer is No.
As an aside, something else I have been pondering.
Hind-sight being what it is, would you agree that our support of Afghanistan against Russia was a mistake?
Would 9-11 have happened if Russia had won that conflict?
Thanks
Mr-Pirk

Yes.

Good point with a lot of validity.
The plus: Regardless of how bad Iraq has been handled, at least certain world parties now know that America still has a bite behind the bark.
Yes and that's a good thing.
The negative: Those parties also now know just how to make that type of war so costly that the USA will be more hesitant than ever to start that type of war.
I seem to recall the soviet Union trying that and failing miserably over time.
On the whole:
Are you better off?
Absolutely.
My answer is No.
I respectfully disagree.
As an aside, something else I have been pondering.
Hind-sight being what it is, would you agree that our support of Afghanistan against Russia was a mistake?
Absolutely not. Afghanistan broke Russia's back in many ways--Militarily, economically, national resolve, etc.
Would 9-11 have happened if Russia had won that conflict?
The Soviet Union would probably still be a world superpower and we would be spending lots more money on additional nuclear weapons, etc. The middle east would be about 4 times more expensive and the rogue Islamic states would have a sponsor and backer for their crap with the U.S. In short, things would be a lot worse.

Theres not a good answer for that, he wasnt so we wont ever know.maybe he would have been more intent on targeting Al quieda and this fiasco in Iraq never would have occured. It doesnt matter if your pro or anti war, you have to admitt it has turned into a fiasco over there that has no end in sight.weve spent billions of dollars in that country that could have been used at home.the US is very divided and many people have lost a lot of faith in our government.it has nothing to do with being conservative or liberal, these are facts.weve lost a degree of respect in much of the worldand now pissant little countries like korea and Iran are trying to see how far they can push things.would they have tried the same things if we werent tied up in Iraq, again, I dont know the answer to that.A lot of things could have been handled differently with a different president.

our gun rights have stayed in tact during other liberal presidencies and will have to stand the test when the next ones elected.its just a fact of life and weather Gore was in office or not wouldnt change it.
with that being said i still think GW was the better choice, oil prices would have went up, the towers would have fallen, and natural disasters would have occured no matter who was in office and these are things GW has caught a lot of flack over, it would have just been a different party pointing fingers if Gore was in office.

Cutting taxes almost invariably leads to more investment and expansion of American businesses, which in turn leads to more output and hence moretax revenues.
The spending is another issue altogether, but my point is that the war isn't bleeding the country dry.
I don't think that the war in Iraq is a "fiasco"....I think that the liberal mdeia blows it out of proportion..and tehydo. My cousin Gary got hoem not too long ago from Iraq, and he was stationed in Baghdad. He said that it isnt nearly as bad as the liberal media makes it out to be, and a good chunk of our casulaties are from friendly fire, helicopter crashed, ect... its not as bad as the media makes it out to be
