thats pretty funny that you would post that vc.I know a guy who's on my dad's softball team that's in a real spot right now. He is a nice guy down deep, but he has a real alcohol problem, and he just got caught with his 3rd DUI. He got his liscence away, and his court date is stet to like 3 months from now or something. What probably is gunna happen is that in the end, he's gunna face some jail time at one point or another, and he probably will never get his liscence back. It's sad to see something like this happen to a real nice person deep down, but he has a real problem. Now 13 DUIs....thats wayyyy past what I think should be accpeted. I agree VC, I think that 2 should be it. the first time you should get some sort of fine, and the second time you should do some jail time and get you're liscence taken away for quite some time, if not that, then for good. I mean, someone can really get hurt, or die, so I think that we need to be really strict about that particular topic. 13 DUIs though is rediculous. just my 2 bit

Chances are the person we'er speculating on has a family, and a job. How would jail time benefit those aspects of the persons life ? How will jail time actually attack to core problem (alcholism) ?
When jail time is served, does the person in question miraculously never drive drunk again ?
Thanks, Ct. Please post again after you find out what type of sentence he gets.
will do

CtHunter8he doesn't drink anymore ? How did his family fare with him in prison for 2 years ? How did he fair when he came out ? Was his job still there ? Now that he's felon, hwo does that affect his life ?
Cat, jail time can and should be a real wake up call for the criminal, his family, and his employer.
So are you suggesting tha prison time always reforms the prisoner from the life that put him there ?
Quote:
DUI is a crime that kills innocents daily. It isn't like kleptomania or prostitution.
Can't argue that ........ but what GOOD does jailtime do VC ? I mean in real life not fantasy
Cat, prison and jail are not meant to reform a person but punish them instead. When a person refuses to stop committing crimes, sometimes it is simply safer for society to lock that person up. Over 16,000 people were killed nationwide in DUI crashes in 2004. When you consider the # of people killed by DUI drivers, it is simply staggering. For those people who refuse to change their ways, sometimes they need to hit bottom with a stiff jail or prison sentence. and if they're still not going to change, then consider how many lives have likely been saved by locking them up. http://www.madd.org/stats/1112

So prison time for a "crime" that has hurt no one ?
Again, Devli's Advocate here, but you're wanting to send someone to prison for a couple of years that will scar them for life, ruin their family life, affect their children, their spouses, their families etc etc all because they have an addiction to alcohol ?
Remember, we're talking about a DUI/DWI offense, the person in theory didn't harm another person in what they were doing. Sure the potential was there ...... but there was no crime against anybody was there ?
