For those who said no war crimes was ever commited ,how would you explain this law trying to be passed??? Iknow bush is scared about this issue enough to make a bill protecting his administration ...Deleted by CalHunter... I don't think this will pass....I think he finally sees the writting on the wall now...
WASHINGTON "” President George W. Bush's administration drafted amendments to the War Crimes Act that would retroactively protect policymakers from criminal charges for authorizing any humiliating or degrading treatment of prisoners, lawyers who have seen the proposal said.
The move by the administration is the latest effort to deal with treatment of those taken into custody in the war on terror.
At issue are interrogations carried out by the CIA and the degree to which harsh tactics such as water-boarding were authorized by administration officials. A separate law, the Uniform Code of Military Justice, applies to the military.
The Washington Post newspaper first reported on the War Crimes Act amendments Wednesday.

You know Daniel this is one of the few times I agree with you to a point. It is BS when a law is made/changed to retroactively make legal what was once illegal.
You love to use "WAR CRIMES" in your rhetoric, you seem to think that Bush is directing everything that may be a war crime, I doubt that very seriously, I have no doubts that there have been some commited, but can you name me one war where they were not commited?
I am not saying they were justified or right, their not!
Now let us talk about REAL "WAR CRIMES" directed by leaders! I will assume you know history so I will just hit you up with the biggest name and you take it from there...... Adolph Hitler!

War crimes...no WMD's found...conspiracy theory....only time will tell. What would be the short and long term consequences of Bush never going to Iraq, pulling support from Israel and getting out of the Middle East?

canuck I was unfamiliar with that word and as a result did a little research which led me to this link http://www.wsu.edu/~dee/ISLAM/CALIPH.HTMhere is a quote which stood out
Quote:
'Umar, however, was one of the great political geniuses of history. While the empire was expanding at a mind-numbing rate beneath his leaderhsip, he also began to build the political structure that would hold together the vast empire that was being built. 'Umar did not require that non-Muslim populations convert to Islam nor did he try to centralize government, as the Persians had done. Instead, he allowed subject populations to retain their religion, language, customs, and government relatively untouched. The only intrusion would be a governor (amir) and, sometimes, a financial officer called an 'amil, or agent.

lets see, we never would have ran up the largest deficit in history.Thousands of people would still be alive.the Un would still have its thumb up its ass.Oil prices would still be outrageous.By dumping Isreal we would officialy have that entire part of the world pissed at us.They would have blown up Hezbollah anyway without us.Terrorists would still be running things over there and plotting agaianst us.On the other hand insurgents probably wouldnt be blowing up innocent Iraqis quite as frequently if that nutjob Saddam was still in power. But saddam would still be raping, killing, and torturing them so thats kind of a draw. There would still be enough sand and camels for everyone not to mention homemade explosives.
There would be good and bad depending on how you look at it

The earliest caliphs were relatives and followers of Muhammad himself.
Under these four caliphs, the political, social, and religious institutions of Islam would be solidified, including the definitive edition of the Qur'an .
The world of Islam would expand far beyond the borders of the Arabian peninsula during their tenure"”east into the Persian empire, north into Byzantine territory, and west across the face of northern Africa.
Because of their foundational status and the fact that they were direct followers of Muhammad, these first four caliphs are called the patriarchs or patriarchal caliphs of Islam.
For many Muslims, this was the golden age of Islamic government when a true Islamic polity was in existence; from some Muslims, such as Shi'ite Muslims, this was the only period when there was legitimate Islamic government.
In this view, the founding of the Umayyad dynasty ushered in more than a millenium of illegitmate government.
