Default Penalize the dog or penalize the owner ?

http://my.earthlink.net/article/nat?guid=20060811/44dc00c0_3ca6_1552620060811-2090419284

Pitbulls have gotten a lot of press lately for attacks , in this scenario who is at fault , the dogs or the owner ? Should all dog assaults be viewed this way ?

Your thoughts ?

To me its no different than the guy coming over with a baseball bat and beating on the guy. He needs jail time and some mental health.

Great question, albeit a rather battered one.

The article illustrates the volatility of the breed, in my opinion. In this case, it seems the beasts need only be loosed and they attack whoever is close enough.

Is the "owner" responsible? To me its sort of like owning a quantity of explosives. If it kills and you owned it, you're responsible. That someone owned it and is held responsible doesn't eliminate the question of the risk of even allowing ownership.

Fine the dog and kill the owner.

Here if this happens the dogs are taken to a kennel immediately
and the owners are summons. The owners usually will have there
dogs put to sleep. If not the courts will decide their fate. The
dog owners will face the court system to have their own fate decided.
The dog owners are responsible for there dogs action period.

Phil, I agree with you that the dog owner is responsible.
I am, however, curious as to your opinion on the breed itself.

Do you think the breed (pitbull) is of a nature that it cannot be trusted?

Can you imagine the dog in your posts doing the same type of thing? I can't.

Myself I feel a pitbull cannot be trusted, however I have seen
some that appear ok. I will keep my distance from them. No, I
cannot see the Irish doing the same thing. But, if brought up
to do that, and taught when young. I am sure they would be
plenty capable. But by nature no way will they act like those.
The nature of mine is pure fun and will sound off when someone
they do not know is near, but, not threatning.

Your thoughts ?

The owner of the dogs, Paul R. Piper, faces municipal charges.

How was itthe owners fault????

Smith, who has posted bail, could not be located for comment Friday. But in an interview with WDAF-TV, Smith denied the charges, saying the dogs escaped accidentally through a window and he was told they were harmless. He said the house's owner hired him to clean...

The woman who owned the home where the dogs were kept told police she was planning to have the dogs removed. She also said she ran into Smith at the house and that he was laughing, saying he had just released the dogs to "cause some excitement."

Other than who owns this house,,There is no evidence pointing to the dogs owner releaseing these dogs....

You hire someone to clean your house... They see your guns... They go on a shooting spree...Should you the owner of this gun bearrested and jailed because it was your gun and not locked in a steel cabinet away from the ammunition???
