How did the passengers on the airlines make phone calls when the technoligy really didn't exist for them to do it at that time or really even now?
New Wireless Technology
While serious doubts regarding the cell calls were expressed in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, a new landmark in the wireless telecom industry has further contributed to upsetting the Commission's credibility. Within days of the release of the 9/11 Commission Report in July, American Airlines and Qualcomm, proudly announced the development of a new wireless technology --which will at some future date allow airline passengers using their cell phones to contact family and friends from a commercial aircraft (no doubt at a special rate aerial roaming charge) (see http://www.qualcomm.com/press/releases/2004/040715_aa_testflight.html )
[blockquote] "Travelers could be talking on their personal cellphones as early as 2006. Earlier this month [July 2004], American Airlines conducted a trial run on a modified aircraft that permitted cell phone calls." (WP, July 27, 2004)
[/blockquote] Aviation Week(07/20/04) described this new technology in an authoritative report published in July 2004:
So, what? The relatives on the ground who said they received cell phone calls from their relatives on board those flights were paid by the government to say that? They really didn't receive the calls? Or they received the calls from air phones but the government told them to say they were called from cell phones?
As with most of the conspiracy theories revolving around 9-11, this one is stupid.

Of course Ben,
It's easy to keep all these people on the same story. I don't see why thats so hard to believe.
Oh and i think the other part of that theory is that the passengers of flight 93 were actually dropped off in some warehouse in the mid west. Probably where the 1969 moon walk was staged.
Dairy many of these phone calls were on normal cell phones.
Quite interesting that three buildings did something that never happened before, cell phones that couldn't make call suddonely did,and a voice recorder picked up stuff from the cabin something it isn't supposed to do.
btw sinceI brought up the voice recorders where are the voice recorders from Flight 11 and 175? ...

I gotta asy too, were the relatives and friends lieing when they said the recieved calls? I doubt the hell out of that. Unlike others here, I don't kniow all the answers but I recognize bunk when I hear it.

RE: Another 9/11 question ??
I believe they were actually shot down and there was a cover up. No proof but the rumor circulated around the military. If it did happen it was for the good of the country. If they weren't shot down I can't imagine why not. They went down long after the other planes hit their targets and the Pa jet was certainly being followed on radar. I don't care where you are in the US military fighters can be on a target in minutes.

Ok, on this I can post with real expertise. On 9-11 I was the senior technical support specialist in Tennessee for a wireless company.
They were able to make calls from the planes. The planes were flying low enough to do so. Those phones could obtain a signal & the handoff technology worked.
It has been against the rules to use wireless phones on airplanes because there is some risk with the signals interfering with some electronics on the plane. I guess if you've been hijacked, those risks didn't carry much weight. Plus, the flight crews were lying there dead with their throats slit, & it seems that the hijackers didn't mind the calls since those calls spread the news of their terrorist actions.
