I went to my local wal-mart with my parents i always head to the sporting goods area when i got there no gun case, is there anyone who is going to help fix this or should we boycott them and hope they close down. I only purchased stuff from them because they were cheaper on shells and guns. can anyone let me know if the nra's going to do something.

RE: What happened to wal-mart
I understand they have decided to eliminate all guns and ammo at certain stores to start. They still have guns at our wally world but the end is near or so I have been told. The corporate mission wants to concentrate on foreign made cheap clothing.

The way I understood it its not anything to do with an anti hunting/anti gun stance. Some stores just dont sell as many guns as others and its not worth carrying them in those stores.
truth is, nobody will stay away from Wal-mart. We'll all bitch and moan about it, but in the end we'll still shop there even though its true that they've caved to the anti-hunting crowd by not allowing firearms to be sold.
its been a big deal here in Arkansas, home to Walmar and the Walton family. They originally said it was only in certain stores, stores that didn't sell a lot of guns. That was a lie - and soon no WalMart will carry firearms or related items.
KMart quit selling guns years ago , it was just a matter of time before Wal-Mart cut back. What I've read is that they plan to eliminate gun sales from stores where the sale of them is unprofitable(mostly urban areas) to concentrate on other items . Stores with good gun sales will continue to carry them . It's not unusual for any store to drop unprofitable items . Hey , my local store no longer carries the McIlhenny's garlic tabasco sauce I crave , I must have been the only one buying it .
Who cares really? There are plenty of mom and pop gun shops everywhere that I've ever lived. You get better service and more knowledgeable staff when you shop at places like these. Hell-Mart is just paying a little over minumum wage to a "Sporting Goods Associate" who doesn't give a crap about guns or hunting, so he doesn't want to know anything about it to help the customers. In fact, at our local Hell-Mart, the "Sporting Goods Associate" is a 65 yr old Mexican lady who doesn't clearly speak English (imagine that). So you can't ask her for example the advantages of say a .223 over a .22-250 or visa versa. Or any hunting related question for that matter. She doesn't know, and she doesn't care. [Side note: Who knows if she's even a U.S. Citizen] I'm sure there are "Sporting Goods Associates" who do know what they are doing, and who do care about the outdoors, but the chances aren't goood.
On top of the local gun shops, there are more and more stores like Academy,Gander Mountain, Big 5, Bass Pro Shop, and Cabelas to stock up on firearms and munitions. I would rather go in places like these anyway because they sell higher end, higher quality products. And they have more selection. Instead of just one brand of camo, they have many. Instead of just 12 guns to pick from, they have hundreds. Anyway, I'm rambling. The point is, I would rather go to a more specialized store than Wal-Mart to buy my guns anyway, so it's not a big deal to me if they stopped selling guns.
Imagine this: At Cabela's you can't wait at the checkout line witha sack of bananas, a jug of milk, paint, a bicycle, feminine hygiene items, and a new 12-guage. You just can't... ...And that's a good thing!

Sorry to hear you can't stay away from Wally world, but I sure as hell do.
Well in Fredericksburg we still have a large gun department at Wally World, we also have a Gander Mountian & a Dicks with HUGE gun departments. I can understand as a business Wlly World eliminating gun departements where the sales do not warrant having one. To be honest with the competition of Gander Mountian & a Dicks, I am surprised that my Wally World still has one.

It isn't just guns. If your Wal-Mart has been through a remodeling phase already (and if it hasn't, it probably will be in the months to come), take a close look at what's happening. Gun sales are being eliminated, ammo sales drastically reduced, sporting goods reduced, automotive reduced. Meanwhile, when you walk in the door, you'll see things that appeal to women "” especially apparel and stylish decor "” front & center. The home entertainment/electronics department is GREATLY expanded.
What does it all mean? Wal-Mart is trying to compete with Target. That's what our store manager said, and when you start looking at what they're doing in the store from that perspective, it's pretty obvious. I have no idea why they would want to "compete" with Target, since Target's sales don't match Wal-Mart's and never will. Perhaps they felt like Target is getting too large a slice of the pie.
The corporate explanation that gun sales were being eliminated at stores that do not sell as many isn't true, in my opinion. I have no idea why they're eliminating them at some stores and leaving them at others, but the Wal-Mart in my hometown sells more guns than anyone in a tri-county area. . . probably more than all retailers in those three counties combined. There is only one sporting goods store in my hometown and its prices are ridiculous, so Wal-Mart captures (captured) almost all the hunters' business . . . and almost everyone around here hunts. Now they aren't selling guns and their hunting supplies have been reduced. Seemed like a poor business decision to me, but what do I know?
