Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default CNN slap at hunters

While listening to CNN news this morning there was a story about a roadside sniper in Indiana who was arrested for murder. During the story they mentioned that the suspect was "an avid hunter". To me this is a gratuitous slap at hunters; as if being an avid hunter somehow made one more likely to be a murderer. I just had to get this off my chest.

It does not surprise me, first and foremost because the source is CNN.

But that sort of thing is rampant in the media today. The surge of anti-hunting comments in the media seems to have stemmed from the Jonesborough, Arkansas, school shootings in the late '90s, when an anchor got on CBS and said "Things like this happen because people in the south keep guns in their house and teach their kids to hunt."

To me this demonstrates what the media types don't know about hunting. They obviously equate being a capable hunter of animals to murder.

Their leap of logic is messed up though. It's not the fact that this lunitic hunted animals as much as he is a freakin lunitic. Obviously, hunting animals doesn't mean you are mentally capable of pulling the trigger on a human.

They just don't know anything about it. . .

I'm not making the connection and I'm not necessarily being offended either. It colors him as an outdoorsman type, as opposed to an inner-city type. It provides detail and context to the report.

I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

But inner-city types are more apt to be dangerous than an outdoorsmen. To me, it'd be like reporting that the sniper was from the inner-city and also played basketball. Why the connection between being a sniper and being an avid hunter?

BUT, I'm not losing any sleep either. . .

I'm going to edit my reply before I even post it. My sense of humor is piqued by this thread.
