Default Dead UN Observers in Lebanon

Well, four UN observers were killed by an Israeli airstrike, which that master diplomat Kofi, has claimed was deliberate. My question is, what in the hell are unarmed UN obsevers doing in a war zone. Furthermore, what were UN forces ever doing in the region if hezbollah was free to use that area as a staging ground for attacks on Israel.

A significant tangent here, but does anyone know what happened with the American soldier who was brought up on charges several years ago because he refused to serve under UN command?

I'd like to know who invited them to "observe" in the first place , I doubt that Israel did , and Hezbollah sure as hell didn't . Poking your nose in somebody else's business is the surest way to get it bitten off .

I think this may be the three man UN team that went in when this first started getting nasty.

I heard on the noon news that the Hezbollah fighters set up a rocket station right next to where the UN guys were staying. Anyone hear that?

Let me get this straight. The UN observer team sees a Hezbollah rocket team set up next to them and as military observers should know about a rocket team's electronic signature and countermeasures (missiles that track and strike the rocket's radar, etc.) and also that once that rocket team begins launching rockets, it becomes a priority target for the Israelis. The UN Observer team sees all of this and STILL doesn't decide to move well away from such rocket team? And, of course, Kofi "don't confuse me with the facts" Anan thinks this was a deliberate Israeli targeting of the UN Observer team and not the Hezbollah rocket team. Am I missing something here? Why does the UN insist on being led by somebody that is so completely detached from reality, common sense and integrity? Why would anybody want to work for somebody who is obviously so stupid as to put unarmed observers next to a priority military target? [:@][:@][:@]
