Good article!! However////
Yep, Lets bring back the "Big Bad Wolf" why don't we??? I have had either hybrids or wolves as members of my family for the past 27 years. Owned, raised, had as pets and loved as family members. I have to agree that if one does not know what they are doing.....they have absolutely no business with one. Not due to the fact they are vicious but because they are very shy as a rule and not vicious...To have one as you do not really "own" one is both a privledge and challange.
The higher percentage of wolf, the more people shy they can be...depends on how they are socialized and at what age.
Dang, had an entire post ready to go on this and then my son hit the wrong dang button!!
No arguement that the are not for inexperienced owners period! That includes folks that think they make good "guard animals" as they DO NOT. The fact that they are vicious is NOT in the equation though. And, yes, it does have to do how they are raised and who raises them....just as it does with any Canid.
And yes, my son does feed Shaman ( our Wolf/hybrid) and Sadie Mae( Argentine Dogo) with my supervision. Both are exceptionally well trained and are valued family members...
Folks that get wolf hybrids and/or wolves for "pets" or "guard animals" need to think ....they are shy of people as a rule and DO NOT make good guard animals , they require a strong personality to raise them and train, and have to be trained with NO exceptions!! to the T!!
You have to be the ALPHA and there can be no exceptions....What really makes me sick is to see the ad's in the papers etc about what " great guard dogs" they make. Wish folks would wake up ....that includes the "big bad wolf" group.....
Dangerous, ....with the wrong person..... you betcha! But so are the small ankle biter/s and bark vippers that many have in their homes, or any other animal that folks may have ...
