Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default how do you like these non-smoking laws ?

I'm very, very pleased with the laws below - the SOB's that smoke in public places will be gone. The dumb asses smoking in vehicles with their kids should decrease dramtically.

Quote:
5/3: When the state's ban on smoking in vehicles where there are children goes into effect this summer, police will be faced with the challenge of restricting a behavior that many consider their personal business, especially in the confines of their own cars. The Arkansas Protection from Secondhand Smoke for Children Act of 2006 is aimed at adults who light up behind the wheel or as a passenger while traveling with small children. The law bans smoking in all motor vehicles carrying a child who is younger than 6 and weighs less than 60 pounds. Violators are subject to a $25 fine. But they may have the fine voided on a first offense if they can show proof of enrollment in a smoking cessation program. "Jonesboro officers will use their discretion in determining what to do," said Sgt. Steve McDaniel, a spokesman for the Jonesboro Police Department. "It is not really our place to have opinions about the law. It is our place to follow the spirit of the law." McDaniel said it will be important for officers to stay focused on enforcement and steer clear of any discussion about the pros or cons of smoking. Click above for full article.

...........

Starting July 21st, it will be illegal to smoke inside all enclosed areas within places of employment. This includes restaurants, bars, sports arenas -- basically anywhere the public enters for business. There are a few exceptions. Any establishment that prohibits anyone under the age of 21 can stay a smoking environment. This includes employees, because waitresses have higher rates of lung cancer than any other occupational group. One shift in a smoky bar is like smoking 16 cigarettes a day.

The issue boils down to a health. Supporters say smokers have a right to smoke, but they have a responsibility to respect the health of others.

BRP I have no issue with that law at all and I sadly am a smoker. I do not smoke in my own house nor around any of my children or any one elses.

I think it is a great law that hopefully will lead to less children growing up to be like me, a smoker.[]

The thing that makes these laws a joke is if smoking is the death wish that they make it out to be then just ban smoking and be done with it. But that won't happen because of all the tax dollars the gooberman makes off of them.

Taz its a good time to become a quitter!!!!!!!

so is the goob going to tell you that you can't listen to certain radio stations when kids are in the car next?

and how did they come up with younger than 6 years old or less than 60 pounds? do 7 year olds have more pull with their parents? how are the police going to prove that the kid is younger than 6?

if the child's health is unquestionably in danger - yes

Tazmanif you smoke you're a total and complete idiot. I can't be any more clear than that. To intentionally do damage to your own body is one of the greatest evils a man can do. That you won't quit is a testament to your total lack of self respect. I feel very sorry for you

Ya know BRP you will recieve no argument from me that I am an idiot for putting myself at risk for a long drawn out death due to smoking, I am man enough to admit that.

Are you man enough to admit that by drinking raw milk you are an idiot for exposing your self to at a minimum a short term illness and possibly a short term illness leading to death?

When you drink your raw milk it is one thing, just like when I smoke, but when you encourage your family to drink it is where you and I part ways! I would never dream of encouraging my family to do something that could endanger their health.

Another step in the march toward a police state , they all started with well intended but increasingly restrictive laws . I don't smoke anymore , but this kind of bullying annoys me . If the goob really cared about the health risks of second hand smoke they'd do the one thing that makes sense , force the tobacco companies to eliminate nicotine from their product . They could still legally sell it , communities could still legally restrict it , and the addiction angle would be removed . I have a feeling that if smokers really had a choice they would only smoke when they felt like it , not when an addictive drug mandated it .

ban automobiles ? airplane ?trains ?on the flip side of being afraid of everything is allowing everything, isn't it ?

therein lies the balance that is sought after - and banning smoking is a GOOD thing

I don't believe that for one single minute. Show me one web site that says smoking Marlboro's is good for you - I bet you can't find one. Yet there are web sites galore that show milk is GOOD for you. Not homogenized milk, not hormone laced milk - real milk.

quit being stupid Tazman - no one believes the risk of drinking a bowl of cereal with milk equates to smoking a pack of cigarettes around your kids.

nobody

Yeah, I don't get that either. The tabacco companies pay for anti-tobacco use ads and publications ...... they lobby AGAINST theirselves by court order - I've never heard of anything such as that before, cand can think of no other examples.

Yet our fearless leaders continue to allow it - stupid as they are.

I'm a non smoker. I have no ax to grind, butpassing a law based on junk science is not a good idea.
