Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default How reliable are our interceptor missiles?

If North Korea launches its missile, and we attempt to intercept it, what are the odds of missing? That would be an embarrassment for this country if we didn't take it out.

It would also destroy Regans legacy of spending untold billions on Star Wars!

A quick check of the Military Channel reveals that we could indeed shoot one down , and we aren't the only ones with ABM capability . A program I saw the other day said that the Israeli Arrow ABM can take out missiles from a pretty good distance too , and they aren't the only ones with that capability either .

If it's the Tadpoledong you're worried about then drop and give me twenty maggot !

LOLOL!

I know we have the capability, but how sure of a thing is it? Is there like a 15 or 25 percent chance of MISSING?

You're banking on the ability of a nearly bankrupt nation to develop a complicated system that sometime vexes even the more advanced nations that already have them . Building an ICBM isn't anything remotely close to easy . More of them crash in testing than will ever be used simply because it's so hard to get right . Look how many times NASA blew rockets up on the pad or otherwise failed . The Germans failed hundreds of times before finally refining their missile technology enough to get one across the English Channel , and even then they met with far less success with their guidance systems than they would have liked . Iran is a far greater worry when it comes to missiles , and they can't even get one that can hit their next door neighbor consistantly . Read up on it , you'll see what I mean .

That's good to know, though with all the spying that has gone on, some nations may benefit from the trial and errors of others without having to go through the learning process themselves.

I am willing to bet a cruise missile from a sub could take it on the pad.

Wouldn't that piss the little bas!ard off.

That would indeed be sweet , but that's not what cruise missiles do , CMs take out ground targets . If they could catch it before it picks up too much speed a lurking fighter with a Maverick , or a group of them , could take it down as it launched .

Kevin may know something about this. If my recollection of the movie The Sum of All Fears is correct, we have ships equipped with with super versions of the old Gatling Gun that are made to shoot down missiles or planes a mile or two out. But I think that they are designed to deal with missiles that are incoming on that ship rather than something that can intercept an object much further away and headed for another target.
