Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Was your brain sunburned too ?

Sunscreens on trial

Is it asking too much for people to just use their brain these days ? You know that too much sun can burn you , even with the best sunscreen , so why are the makers of sunscreen being sued ?

Your thoughts ?

saw this on the tv, the reports we saw mentioned the fact that certain manufacturers and their product labels are using wording that is misleading with respect to the UV types...UVA and UVB, UVB is the type that penetrates our skin deeper and can be more harmful, the claims on labelling give people the impression that they are protected from both types of UV's when in fact the UVB protection is barely worth mentioning at all.....one needs a magnifying glass to read the labels these days anyway....LOL

I agree with you about people not using their brains...helloooooooo sun screen only works for a while before you have to reapply it...and, when was the last time you saw someone working in a field picking veggies wearing only shorts or a bathing suit...going to be out in the sun all day wearing only sunscreen is just asking for it too....

I think the people most at risk are the folks living in the snow zones where they get sunburned quickly after winter is gone and they start shedding clothes....

cause they lied kev. the most salient thing about the article to me is that in '99 the fda asked them to change their advertising gimmicks because the verbiage was false and misleading. the manufacturers didn't. they got it coming to them.

The class action lawsuit is a relatively new cash cow in America and maybe even elsewhere. For an attorney or a law firm its like winning the Super Bowl of lawsuits, a ticket to wealth and legal fame. But I don't blame the lawyers, I blame the greed of the average American who signs up for a class action lawsuit without hesitation or thought, hoping for a check.

Money for nothing and your chicks for free.

i have no sympathy for hammering a company that knowingly misleads the public with respect to a product it markets.

i do, however, feel that the class-action lottery you mention is an abomination of our legal industry. the companies are penalized, but only the lawyers really receive compensation. it hasbecome more of a de facto grossly disproportionate "finders fee" for corporate malfeasance.

Well folks I agree that a company should not mislead nor lie in advertising, but I have a feeling this law suit is going to fall on its face because of the foolowing:

1. The labaeling law the are required to follow is from 1993 which all of them are in full compliance on.

2. The law suit is based upon a "Voluntary" guideline that the FDA put out in 1999!

In a nut shell they are filing a lawsuit over something that to this day is still voluntary.

Class action lawsuits are the biggest money makers for lawyers going right now and need to be brought under control by severely limiting the percentage of the settlement that law firms can keep for thier services.
