Handgun Licensing in New York City

back in the 1970's, NYC instituted a 'requirement' for all pistol licencees and applicants for pistol licenses to belong to an NRA-affiliated gun club. Failure to do so, would disqualify new applicants from being accepted, and if a license-renewal could not prove membership, the license would be revoked. The NRA apparently fought the requirement, basing their argument on the point that this was economic discrimination; the poor cannot afford to belong to gun clubs and their rights would be denied based on their ability to pay. The case went to court and the NRA won; NYPD pulled back the requirement for a number of years.

I understand this requirement has been re-instituted; I never heard anything about a fight over this issue from NRA. Seems to me, somebody's defying a court decision... Anybody out there know anything about this ?

It's a political "sweetheart deal" if you ask me . The NRA would love to have thousands , or perhaps millions , of New Yorkers swell their ranks , and the city would love to institute a restriction . Since a case precedent has already been set someone will sue and it will get tossed out , but not before the NRA makes some new members . Pretty shrewd move on their part .
