Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default FDA telling restaurants to cut portion sizes

http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/diet.fitness/06/02/restaurants.obesity.ap/index.html

The FDA is charged with making sure that the food we eat and the drugs we take are safe for us , so what gives them the right to tell the restaurant industry to cut back on portion sizes ? I don't know about the rest of you , but I might eat in a restaurant once a week , twice at most . I look over the entire menu before choosing what I want , and sometimes don't finish my meal entirely if the portion is too generous. The restaurant provides me these choices so that I may be better served , so how does the FDA think it can decide for me before I ever walk in the door ?It's none of their business what I eat or how much , the only one who should be concerned with that is me .

Your thoughts ?

The FDA is wasting their time on this, what are they going to do? Shut down every buffet in the country!!!!

Thefood industry caters to what the public wants, when someone goes out to eat they will eat at a place that serves what they want in the quanity they wish.

For Crying out loud the gooberment can't even run themselves and now they want to tell us how much to eat. The FDA must have taken on all the rejects that couldn't make the grade at FEMA.
To the FDA....Eat this!

ITS A FREE COUNTRY IF I WANT TO EAT LIKE A PIG AND HAVE A HEART ATTACK AT THE AGE OF 40 LET ME. Its not affecting others like smoking ......now if we had a nationalised healthcare plan I probably would suport this as I prefer not to pay for someone elses lard clogging their arteries....

The government should focus instead on cutting down their spending. When they can balace a budget, pay off the debt and run a surplus, maybe then I'll think about letting them tell me how much to eat.[:@]

I don't know about you guys, but if I pay $20 for a plate, it better be pretty damn full!

If I were to get half the portions I get now, and still pay the same price (and you know they would not reduce prices) I would not eat at that resturaunt again. I'll stay home and over eat for less!

Besides, smaller portions does not mean I eat less, what it really means is that I order more!

No suprise just more of the same and my bet is you will find lots of people that will support it. All you've got to do to get people to approve of something like this is bring up the old "if it saves just one life it's worth it" argument or convince them that it will save some money. It has worked to enact laws to enforce the use of seat belts, motorcycle helments, blaze orangeetc. and it works for restrictive laws like gun control and gives more and more power to regulatory orgs like osha and even the local building codes and zoning laws. The list goes onand on. IMO we are losingour liberty in little pieces and sadly with the consent of the people. It truly makes me ill. I've railed against this kind of crap before. We are becoming a nationthat is loosing its sense of what it means to be free. We no longer value ourliberties to the degree our predecessorsdid and are willing to tradethem away for trinkets. It scares me to think of how much more regulated we will all be in the future.
