Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default U.S. Concerned By Cuban Oil Drilling Off Coast

Ifferd, this one's for you dude...

Cuba is leasing oil drilling rights off its northwest shores. Some in the United States say the federal government should swallow its distaste of Fidel Castro and allow U.S. companies to bid on the rights. Others say no one should be drilling just 50 miles off Key West.

The U.S. trade embargo is 44 years old. The potential reserve that might be located in the area is more than one billion barrels

"China is there. They are now doing some exploratory drilling. It is our belief that the Chinese don't have the experience that we would expect and want for environmental safety," he said.

Cuba does not have technology for deep-water drilling. It has signed deals with China as well as companies from Spain and Canada.

The USA has got to push China out of there...IMO anyway...Maybe Canada could sign more deals with our southern brothers in mind?

The US has been sitting on its thumb for 30 years when it comes to new drilling. We should have been drilling in that very spot already. But isn't there a piece of legislation that moved the international water line out to 200 miles from 12? Or is that just the fishing grounds in Alaska?

Who knows what kind of spy equipment they'll have on those rigs???

This is what we get for our stupid policy on Cuba. The south Florida lobby keeps us from trading with a country that we should have a good relationship. We won't trade with them because they are a "communist" country. I guess that is why we have such a trade imbalance with "the free republic of China."

Rediculous! --- And now we're reaping the benefits of that stupidity - other countrys getting oil that we should be getting.
So we have a sovereign right to it , or just have to bid for the rights like anyone else ?

I seriously doubt that Cuba would cede the rights to any US owned company anyway , they hate us far too much , but I agree that the embargo has gone on far too long .

I heard on FOX that we are worried about the Chinese drilling just off our costs and in Cuban waters. If we don't drill it, someone else will. Time for the Greens to wise up.
