Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Russellville Bans New Pit Bulls

If you live in Russellville and own a pit bull dog, you can keep it until it wears out, but you can't get a replacement. The city of Russellville will allow owners of pit bull dogs to keep their animals as long as they register them and follow certain restrictions.

But residents can't bring any additional pit bulls into the city to live.

City officials considered the ban on pit bulls after animal control officials said they had received numerous complaints about the dogs.

The new rules, adopted Thursday, require residents who already own pit bulls to register the animals with the city within 30 days of the passage of the ordinance. The registration number would be tattooed to the dog.

Residents must be at least 21 years old to keep their pit bulls. They also must get a city license for the dog as well as have the dog vaccinated for rabies and spayed or neutered.

Previously, on " What Town is Next to Ban Pit Bulls "......

Russellville city officials are considering a proposed ban on pit bull terriers because the city has gotten so many complaints about the animals.

Russellville animal control director Mike Vernon says the city picked up 65 pit bulls last year and 25 so far this year.

He is proposing an amendment to the city's vicious dog ordinance that would ban pit bulls from the city. Residents who already own pit bulls could keep the dogs if they register the animals with the city within 30 days of the passage of the ban.

The city council is expected to hear a second reading of the proposed amendment April 20th. The proposal requires three readings before the council can take a vote on the ban.

So what about all the other dogs that are mistaken for pit bulls ,what if it is not a pure bred pit bull?

Charlie - pit bull isn't a breed, there are no pure bred pit bulls, unless your'e truly talking about the American Pit bull terrier

In a way, this does boil down to individual rights vs the rights of everyone else, not unlike how our normal society works in many other cases.

you can't drive 100 mph in a school zone
you can't target shoot a machine gun in a city park
you can't get hammered at a club and drive around in a car
you can't own 1,000 pounds of plastic explosivesjust for giggles

those arepersonal rights lostin the better intrest ofeveryone else and/or such that they are restricting your rights to prevent thechances of you harming other people.

and it works,a lot

sure it fails too sometimes, but without thesesafegaurds, chaos would reign.

so too is it with having pit bull type dogswithin some city limits. They are too dangerous for everyone around them without having strict rules applying. And justly so
