If I hear another oil exec get on TV and spout "supply & demand" b.s. excuses . . . . . . . [:@]
Shell's president was the latest to get on TV and spout bullcrap about supply & demand this morning.
Hello! Several memos have been uncovered that were written by high-ranking officials at Texaco, etc., in the mid-'90s, stating that oil production needed to be limited to increase profits. Over the next six years, some 35 refineries in America were VOLUNTARILY closed by the major oil companies. Is there anything else that needs to be said?
I feel sorry for Americans who can't see through the ridiculous and paper-thin excuses of the oil industry.

Part of the problem, not all of it, but part, is that demand, WORLD WIDE demand has gone way up. USA has always been the #1 consumer of oil, this is slowly changing with countries like China growing and increasing their demand. So, basically while we can try and reduce our personal demand, the effect will be minimal due to world wide demand growing.
Its a global economy more and more, and we will have to adjust.
Stossel's logic somehow eludes me , gouging is by definition taking advantage of the misfortune of others and that's not right no matter how obtusely you view it . Gouging is a crime and should be .
