Isreal trying to get us into another Iraq?

JERUSALEM

Iran is just a few months away from acquiring the technological know- how that will allow it to build an atomic bomb, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said in an interview broadcast Sunday.
Olmert flew to Washington on Sunday for his first meeting as prime minister with President Bush. The two leaders are expected to discuss Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Olmert told CNN's "Late Edition" that the key issue regarding Iran was not when it builds a nuclear bomb, but rather when it acquires the knowledge they need to manufacture such arms.
"This technological threshold is nearer than we anticipated before. This is because they are already engaged very seriously in enrichment," Olmert said. "The technological threshold is very close. It can be measured in months rather than years," Olmert added, repeating statements previously made by other senior Israeli officials.
Olmert said the world could not take Iran's nuclear ambitions lightly because Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has repeatedly called for Israel's destruction. However, he said it was unlikely Israel would act on its own, diplomatically or militarily, to deal with the problem.
In 1981, Israel's air force attacked the Iraqi nuclear reactor at Osirak, destroying the facility. But Olmert said the situations cannot be compared, and Israel will try to persuade the Western world to impose sanctions on Iran.
Iran has so far rejected European proposals to back off the idea of U.N.-imposed sanctions if Tehran agrees to freeze its uranium enrichment program. Another proposal the Europeans are preparing will apparently include a clause saying that if Iran refuses, it could face sanctions backed by the threat of force.
Iran, which insists its nuclear program is for peaceful, civilian purposes, says it has the right to enrich uranium.
Olmert expressed confidence that Bush would "lead other nations in taking the necessary measures to stop Iran from becoming a nuclear power."
"We will certainly try to convince other countries that, at this time, before they cross the technological threshold, that the measures will be taken to stop them," Olmert said

Sanctions by the western world won't work because they don't need us. Their oil guarantees that someone will pay them what they want for it and support them with weapons and technology.

From what I've read their Uranuim is so contaminated it's almost impoosible for them to refine it to weapoms grade.

I believe Israel is tring to get us more involved in their affairs.

Charlie why would Israel "need" us for dealing with ANY country over there? The Israelies are MORE than capable of solving this whole middle eastern mess by themselves. The only problem with that is that our oil supply areas would glow and have severe radiation problems for about the next couple hundred years. But other than that, they don't need us for anything other than re-assurance that they aren't alone in the world. Israel knows that between their own forces and combined with ours that they are NOT subject too severe threat by any great coalition of Arab States, even the ragheads aren't that crazy.

As God's people (Israel) and as a Christian nation (U.S.A.) I think our collective support and standing together against the rest of the world is paramount. When the FINAL JUDGEMENT day does come, I would want the U.S.to beFIRST on the short list of pro-Israel countries.

It's just "what's right" no matter the cost,

Not all nukes last forever , Red , neutrons allow reentry to the bombed area within days . Food for thought .

Can you name one conflict Israel has stood next to us and actually lost a soldier?

I think it's Isreal trying to take advantage, you know it's like the old saying...."since you are already here, we need a favor... "...I am pretty tired of the whole Israel/Palestinian whining over there....it's all they do...now maybe just sitting back and mopping up is better...troops are there in Iraq in case it gets too stupid...let em fight they're own battles...

The only thing stopping Isreal from acting on their own and for not lending us a hand is that the U.S. has convinced them to stay out of it. However if the threat becomes more real, They will act and do what we should have already done.
