RE: Your personal experience with pit bulls?? Anyone?
A friend of mine has a pit bull named Duke who enjoyslying on my head when I get drunk at his annual New Year's party. He was the same dog thatran away from three armed home invaders.
My brother-in-law also has a pit bull named Pimpin' who promptly rolls onto his back for a belly rub when he sees me, then sits on my foot when I stand back up.
Those are the only two I've gotten to know well. Most of myfamily and friendsown labs or sheps.

I have no experience with pit bulls. My "run-ins" have happened with German Shepards. I still have the stitch marks on my right knee, 30 years after the incident.

I have never had a bad experance with a pit bull. Not many around here.I have been biten several times by farmers dogs when I stoped to ask them to hunt their land.
Where I grew up a mean dog was never tolerated if got loose once it was shot.If a dog bite someone it was shot.
RE: Your personal experience with pit bulls?? Anyone?
my only experience is when my wife came home from running in the City of Cabot and 2 pit bulls came from a house's yard, across the road and bayed her. She said they were extremely agressive, and right in her face, and she would stand her ground screaming at them, and they'd lose intrest and start back across the street, she'd move a few feet and they'd come charging back. That went on for a while, I dunno, 10-15 minutes and finally she moved far enough away that they eventually lost intrest.
she was a balling, quivering mess, and my wife aint a weak woman. Those damn dogs were on the verge of attacking her for no reason, simply because they were doing what they do - attack.

Most of mypersonal experiences with them have been friendly or neutral , but my youngest son got mauled by one a few years back so I don't turn my back on them . If they're confined within a fenced yard , kennel , or on a stout chain I couldn't care less about them .

I treat any dog that does not know me with the premise that if I get too close to him, he will bite me. I never trust any dog that does not know me, especially pit bulls, rotweilers, german shepards and dobermans.

RE: Your personal experience with pit bulls?? Anyone?
I owned two for over 16 years. Never once a problem and no aggression. I have had a coyote dog, which is half grey hound and pit. This dog was very aggressive, and I attribute a lot of that due to its training. We trained it to chase down coyotes and kill them. I might also mention, it looked nothing like pit. Up until about 4 years ago, I hunted 4 or 5 times a year, using pits as catch dogs. We used cures to find the hogs, and pits as catch dogs. These catch dogs were very aggressive, but were also trained to do so. Other than that, I had a pit english bull dog mix back in highschool. Best dog I have ever had. Looked like a very stocy pit bull, but was milder than an English bull dog.
I have had to shot two pits in my life. Just this year I shot a pit that was loose and attacking a ladies dog. I also was involved in shooing a pit, with our local cop, that had attacked a neighbors cat. Both of these dogs got lose from their trainer. And I say trainer because they were both being trained as fight dogs. Needless to say, the owner went to the pen for dog fighting and the following drug bust that was a consequence of the state troopers investigating the dog fighting ring. I also have many friends with pits. That would sum up my experienc with pits.
I would like to add that I have shot more chows than pits. Dont think Im some sort of dog killing freak, but where I live there is no animal controle, so when a dog attacks, It gets shot. I usually am not the one shooting the dogs, but am involved with the local cop and assist him with the matter. That was until he retired. One of our problems here, is not a breed of dog, but the fact that they start packing up and going feral. Im very concerned when I see a pack of dogs reverting back to nature, killing what ever they can for food. I dont want one of there food choices to become a child.

I was once treed by a pit. He came out of a neighborhood yard while i was jogging. fortunatley i got up in the tree prior to him getting to me.
I was also walking my dog when I lived in Fl (On a leash)when a pit came after us. I was very lucky to have my dog kill the pit. He was a large male Akita and fortunatly quicklygot a hold if the pits throat. could have been real bad if luck wasn't on our side
