Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Senate Votes to Build 370 Miles of Fence Along Border With Mexico
Wednesday, May 17, 2006

OAS_AD('Frame1');
WASHINGTON"”Heeding conservative demands to shore up the southern U.S. border to prevent illegal immigrants from freely crossing into the country, the Senate voted Wednesday to build 370 miles of triple-layered fence
Senators voted 83-16 to add fencing and 500 miles of vehicle barriers along the southern border.

Click here to see how your senator voted on building a fence.

Construction of the barrier would send "a signal that open-border days are over. ... Good fences make good neighbors, fences don't make bad neighbors," said Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala. He said border areas where barriers already exist have experienced economic improvement and reduced crime.
"What we have here has become a symbol for the right wing in American politics," countered Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill. If made law, "our relationship with Mexico would come down to a barrier between our two countries."
Wow!!! Even both of my liberal Senators from California voted in favor of this. I included a link above so everybody can see how their senators voted.

I wonder if it will work as well as the one at the border at San Ysidro ...
I wonder if they'll hire "guest workers" to build it ? The irony of that would be delicious ! The only wall that will stop a ******* is a wall of receding lead , anything less will be a total waste of time and money .

I was wondering the same thing, kev...but if the mexicans stillclimb the wall and ignore the no trespassing signs then it's fair game...or it should be...wide open border is just too easy for them to scoot across...

Yep, the Senatepassed an amendment to build a few hundred miles of fencing. Then they passed another one leaving the option for citizenship open to illegals. One step forward, two steps back....

good fencing might stop them from going over easily but they are tunneling under existing fences currentlyalong certain portions of the border....

I wonder if the wall itself will be made of a concrete footing/foundation first, say 6 ft below ground, then an above ground portion over 12 ft high?

Would probably need vibration sensors built in to detect the tunnelling at the below ground portion...that might work.

What about back charging the mexican government for costs associated with this and thecatch and release of live illegals?

Our government is giving this country away. Illegals should be shot on sight. Maybe that would put an end to it. Legal immigration to a point is ok but illegals need to be dealt with in a final way.

We ought to subcontract it to the former East Germans. Those birds know how to build a wall.

A wall/fence along the ENTIRE border with frequent patrols is the only solution. The NG is not needed, simply fund the border patrol and staff it adequately and given them legal authority to deport IMMEDIATELY any illegal back to MEXICO - no red tape.

AND, stiff financial penalties for businesses who hire illegals. If that isn't made law, the rest is just academic.

That by itself will do more to discourage them than anything . No trabajo , no dinero .
