Sorry Arizonans , but 13(+or-) tiny little owls have a much greater right to one million(+or-) acres of badly needed real estate than you do . They aren't even a distinct species or subspecies , but they deserve the land more than you do .
Your thoughts ?

If only 13 are left, looks like it is time for humans to step in and start a repopulation program. Catch the birds, start a captive breeding program, then start letting them go. Theyapparently are having problems doing it on their own. At the present rate, I dont see the species recovering by itself.

Weren't deer,Buffalo, and many other animals headed for extinction before we got involved?
Yep, which lead to bag limits. We finally figured out how much of a problem we had with the free killing of everything on the rail road expaditions. Little different than creating a highway.

They were headed for extinction because humans actively sought them out to kill them, not because the couldn't adapt to their surroundings.
If humans want to step in and prevent the species from natural extinction, fine by me. I think that understanding that natural extinction is a reality that has been around since before humans were is important to remember.
Extinction is part of the natural process. If they can't hack it, Mother Nature takes them out. It's been happening for millions of years.
I agree , but people still get on my case for the same position when I apply it to small businesses like family farms or starving Africans who won't move to where there's some food . Go figure ...
My own view is "Let'em die out" , they're obviously ill equipped to adapt to change as Mama Nature demands , and she always has the last word .
