RE: And the compromise is ?
I personally thought the speech was nothing more than political pandering.
But if I had to choose just one statement from the president's address, I'm so sick and tired of hearing the lame old excuse that we need Mexicans to work jobs that Americans won't work. Horse hockey! It isn't that Americans won't work those jobs. It is just that Americans won't work those jobs for eight dollars a day.
I drive down the road here and I pass a hardwood flooring facility, where temperatures inside reach 120 degrees during July and August middays and where lost limbs or digits from saws are not all that uncommon, and I see Americans sweating for $11/hour. Then I drive on down the road and I pass a highway road construction project where Mexicans are holding the little signs that say "STOP" on one side and "SLOW" on the other.
You mean to tell me that Americans are willing to work in that factory but they aren't willing to hold that sign? Please. Give me a break.
I voted for Bush and I support Bush. But, frankly, he needs to take his amnesty plan and shove it.
